About the Weather... - April 08, 2009

By Michael Marsolek.

It is always a challenge for us to give accurate weather information to a listening area covering half of the state. I spoke with Mike Johnson at the National Weather Service (NWS) in Missoula to get clarification on the “zone forecasts.” The NWS divides the state into zones of similar climatology and does not provide the names of cities and towns.

Have you always wondered what exactly does the Butte / Blackfoot or Lower Clark Fork region mean? Or what is the real difference between isolated or scattered showers? Or when do watches become warnings? Here's a link to the weather zones. And follow this link for Spring and Summer weather information.

By the way - The Butte Blackfoot region is from east of Seeley Lake on the north to southern Deer Lodge County on the south, and from just west of Phillipsburg all the way to the Continental Divide, east of Butte.
