Today's Highlight: Want to start off the New Year right and increase your civic involvement? Join the Florence Civic Club at their monthly meeting tonight , January 7th, at the Local Living Center next to the Town Pump. The meeting starts at 7pm and meets the first Monday of every month.. The Missoula International School is holding two Open House events on Tuesday January 8th and again on Tuesday January 15th. Both events are being held at the school at 1100 Harrison Avenue from 9 to 10 am and provide the opportunity to get a birds-eye view of the community serving pre-school to 8th grade students. The Western Montana Genealogical Society is holding its January meeting on Tuesday at 7 pm at the Missoula Public Library. The Program Presenter will be Tate Jones, Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History. The event is free and open to the public. Call 529.1155 for additional details.
The Missoula Public Library’s 5th Annual Writing Contest is accepting entries January 7th through February 22nd. This contest is for writers age 8 and up, there are no fees, and entry packets are available at the information desk at the library. Entrants are eligible for prizes. Contact the library at 721.book
Two Scholarships are available from Soroptimist International of Hamilton. To be eligible, applicants must be female, residents of Ravalli County, accepted or enrolled at a vocational/technical school, can demonstrate financial need,and have been active in community service. The Swan Ecosystem Center in Condon will hold a snowshoeing day on Saturday January 12th. The group will meet at the USFS Condon Work Center. The day will begin with basic instruction and progress thru the day to an intermediate hike in the afternoon. This event is open to all adults and is free, though donations are gladly accepted. The Columbia Falls Library Assn is holding an Introduction to Traditional Birch Bark Baskets program featuring Steve Wingard. This event is scheduled for Saturday January 12th from 2 to 4 pm in the Avalanche Room of the Teakettle Community Hall in Columbia Falls.
