Today's Highlight: The Friends of East Helena will host a Downtown Christmas Stroll and Arts and Crafts show on Thursday, December 6th from 5:30 – 8:30. Featured are children’s activities on Main Street, performances at City Hall, and a visit from Santa – be sure to bring your cameras! If you’d like additional information, please call 227-6682.

Learn to create beautiful arrangements for your holiday home through the fine art of Japanese flower arranging called Ikebana. Two workshops are planned, the first to be held at the Clay Arts Guild, 3025 Bozeman Avenue in Helena from 7:00 – 8:30 TONIGHT. Then an Open House Party will take place at 7:00 o’clock this Saturday at the Clay Arts Guild Holiday Store on Last Chance Gulch near the Parrot Candy Store. Enjoy music, food, and shop for locally-made holiday items. Call 422-6645 if you’d like more information on either event.

The Flathead Valley Community College’s Art Department invites the public to a student art show and open house, beginning at 6:00 pm tomorrow night, December 6th in the Arts and Technology Building on the FVCC campus in Kalispell. During the open house both students and faculty will be working in all of the art studios and visitors will be encouraged to participate. The student art show is free and will remain open until December 18th. Call 756- 3896 if you’d like more information.

The Jeanette Rankin Peace Center in Missoula will once again hold their annual Kids’ Night this Friday, December 7th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. You can drop off your children with a budget and a list of holiday gifts to buy at the center and their volunteers will help the children pick out the perfect gifts and then wrap them up. Refreshments will also be served. Call the Peace Center at 543-3955 for any additional information.

The Bitterroot College of the University of Montana in Hamilton will hold an Open House this Friday from 4:30 – 7:30. Come meet the staff, students, and the Provost. Refreshments will be served. Call 375-0100 with any questions you may have.

As part of a growing American phenomenon, the annual TubaChristmas will take place this year on Friday, December 7th from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at the Southgate Mall Clock Court in Missoula. Registration and rehearsal will be in the Sentinel High School Band Room from the 3:30 – 5:30 Friday afternoon. Call Gary Gillett, at 728-2403 for more information on this popular event.

The Emerging Ceramic Artists and the Student Sculpture Association of the University Of Montana School Of Art will host the 27th annual Holiday Sale and Juried Show Thursday – Saturday, December 6th – 8th in the UM Art Annex, south of the Adams Center on the Missoula mountain campus. An opening celebration with music provided by Good Clean Dirt will be held on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00, with an awards presentation scheduled at 5:00 o’clock. As part of the December First Friday events in Stevensville, the public is invited to a free musical performance by Charla Bauman. Charla will play guitar and sing a variety of songs from country to traditional holiday music this Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the North Valley Public Library. All ages are welcome and light refreshments will be served. Call the library at 777-5061 for more information.

Several art openings will be held this Friday night, December 7th as part of the December First Friday Art events:
- a Fiber Holiday Arts Reception will take place from 5:30 – 8:00 pm at 436 North Last Chance Gulch, next to Murray’s Café in Helena. See local hand-spun yarns, dried flower wreaths, handwoven items, jewelry and more. Call 640-1567 for more information.
- then in Missoula, come to the opening night of new and selected work by Kristi Hager and Leslie Millar at the Brunswick Gallery, 223 West Railroad Street from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Call 721-0591 with any questions.
- and finally, the Monte Dolack Gallery will host their December First Friday reception, featuring this year’s new work, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Gallery, located at 139 West Front Street in downtown Missoula. For more information on this art opening, call 800-825-7613.
