Today's Documentary Special is a special half-hour edition of the weekly series "Mountain West Voices" that examines the remarkable legacy of homesteading in Montana. "A Fair Chance" takes a look at what the homestead movement meant for Montana, for the West and for the Nation. Author Ivan Doig talks about his Montana homestead roots, and Salish elders recall the tumultuous impact of the Flathead Reservation being opened to homesteading. "A Fair Chance" also introduces listeners to the extraordinary history of the thousands of single women homesteaders who shaped the history of our state
