Today's Highlight: Today's University and Community calendar is partly sponsored by UM Productions who are presenting “The Imperial Acrobats of China, The Tale of the Dragon,” which is a dramatic tale fused with warrior skills, acrobatic acts and circus talent. The production will be held on October 26th at the Dennison Theater at the University of Montana in Missoula. Tickets are available at all GrizTix locations.
The Jeanette Rankin Peace Center will present the film, “Barack Obama and the Failure of Capitalist Democracy” at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow night, October 11th in the University Center Theater on the University of Montana mountain campus in Missoula. Special guest speaker, David Barsamian will speak after this film. Then, at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12th in the Urey Lecture Hall, David Barsamian will give an analysis on the crisis in U.S. capitalism today and offer solutions for the future. The Bonner Milltown Community Council will hold its regular monthly meeting tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. in the Bonner School Library on Highway 200 in Bonner. A discussion is planned on the possible future uses of the mill site and Vickie Edwards of the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks will give an update on the status of the mountain sheep population. The YWCA of Missoula invites everyone to celebrate the “International Day of the Girl” by attending the free film presentation of “10 X 10.” The film tells the stories of 10 extraordinary girls from 10 countries and was written by 10 celebrated writers and narrated by 10 renowned actresses. A discussion will follow and light refreshments will be served. The screening will take place at 6:30 tomorrow night at The Girls Way, 1515 Wyoming Street in Missoula…
The YWCA is also sponsoring a free Women’s Leadership Conference on “Making Connections on Shared Priorities” on Friday, October 12th from 1:00 – 6:00 pm. The conference will take place on the Third Floor of the University Center on the UM campus. Call the YWCA at 543-6691 to register or if you have any questions on either event.
The Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton will host the next Fellowship Club meeting on Thursday, October 11th at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the book, “Stillness Speaks.” The Fellowship Club meets every second Thursday of the month and is free and open to all. For more information, call 363-1670.
The next Brown Bag Lecture at the Mansfield Center at the University of Montana in Missoula will be held tomorrow, October 11th at noon. The lecture, “Reflections on Issues of Women’s Empowerment in Southeast Asia” will be given by State Department exchange professionals from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.
