Today's Highlight: Today's University and Community calendar is partly sponsored by Writing Coaches of Missoula, a community-based organization providing individual writing assistance to Missoula area middle and high school students. The coaches are currently seeking volunteers and will be offering training sessions that begin on September 19th. Preregistration is required by visiting the Web site: writingcoaches dot wordpress dot com.

A second round of devastating fires that burned many hay fields has left Lame Deer ranchers wondering where they will get hay. For more information on how you can donate hay or defray the cost of transporting hay to the Northern Cheyenne community, please call 586-2455 or send an email to info@hopamountain.org.

The 12th annual Everything Sale for Refugee Aid will be held September 13th – 22nd at 1045 East 4th Street in Whitefish. Proceeds will go to Doctors without Borders and to the International Rescue Committee. Contributions of items for the sale are still needed and volunteers to help with the sale would be most welcome. The Whitefish Women’s Salon invites the public to a watercolor sketching workshop that will be held September 14th – 16th at the Haymoon Resort. For complete details regarding this workshop and directions to the resort, please call Mary Conway at 862-8122.

The Fellowship Club at the Bitterroot Public Library in Hamilton will meet at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow night, Thursday, September 13th to discuss the book, “The Matter of Mind: An Explorer’s Guide Through the Labyrinth of the Mind.” The Fellowship Club meets every second Thursday of the month and is free and open to the public. The University of Montana Dance Program is currently offering creative movement classes for children ages 3 ½ - 10 years. The classes are held from 3:30 – 6:00 o’clock in the UM PARTV dance studio. For complete details, please call Theresa at 243-2849.

The 4th annual Writer’s Fall Opus, sponsored by the University of Montana Creative Writing Program, will be held from 6:30 – 10:00 p.m. this Friday, September 14th at the Florence Building Governor’s Room, located at 111 North Higgins in Missoula. Guests will enjoy fine food, beverages, as well as silent and live auctions. For more information, call Karin at 243-5267.

The Rocky Mountain Museum of Military History, located in building T-316 at Fort Missoula, will host a day of activities and lectures honoring September 1862 when the Union was in crisis. This event will be held on Sunday, September 16th beginning at 2:00 p.m. Normal hours for the museum are Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00 – 5:00. More information on the museum may be obtained by calling 549-5346.
