Today's Highlight: Today’s University and Community Activities are partly sponsored by “Fire Ready Montana”, an initiative from the Governor’s Office of Community Service. Engaging citizens in service and encouraging Montanans o develop an emergency preparedness plan. On the web at Ready dot M T dot gov.

The global climate group, 350.org, will host a training course on community-level grassroots climate organizing in Missoula. Participants will learn how to apply these organizing techniques in their communities, to create a cleaner, greener world. The training session will take place Wednesday, July 18th from 6-8pm on the UM Campus, University Center, Room 330. For more information and to RSVP, go to 350.org.

PFLAG--Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transgenders--will host their regular meeting this week for all who wish to attend. The meeting will be held Tuesday, July 17th at 7pm at the Metropolitan Community Church of Montana, 1220 17th South, Great Falls.

The UM School of Extended & Lifelong Learning will host Apprentice-Level Bee-Keeping Courses this week and next. Participants will learn about the basics of bee keeping, bee biology, and care in both lectures and hands-on experiences. The course will take place over two weekends: Saturday, July 21st-Sunday the 22nd and Saturday, July 28th-Sunday the 29th from 8am-2pm at the Fort Missoula Research Complex and Apiary. The Missoula County Commissioners are seeking applicants for the Seeley Lake Community Council. Due to a recent resignation, one unfulfilled term to 2013 is vacant. Applications are available at the County Commissioners Office, 119 West Pine, Admin Building and online. Deadline for applications is Friday, July 20h at 5pm. The Friends of Missoula Public Library need volunteers to assist with the upcoming Book’n It for the Library 3K Fun Run and 8K Run. The races will be held Saturday, July 28th. If you are available and interested in volunteering, contact Lisa at lisamj@missoula.lib.mt.us or call 721-2665.

Bitterroot Public Library will host A Shot in the Dark, an introduction to digital pictures after the sun goes down. Participants should take a camera and, if possible, a tripod. A Shot in the Dark will be held Tuesday, July 17th from 8-9pm in the West Meeting Room of the Bitterroot Public Library, Hamilton. For more information, call 363-1670.
