Today's Highlight: The Community Dispute Resolution Center of Missoula County will hold training classes in Basic and Advanced Mediation June 18th – 22nd from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at Ruby’s Inn and Convention Center on North Reserve Street in Missoula. The 40-hour training includes 24 hours of instruction in basic mediation and 16 hours in advanced mediation. To register by June 13th or for more information, call 543-1157.

The community is invited to participate in Missoula’s 2012 Long-Range Transportation Plan. A workshop will be held tomorrow night, June 7th from 5:45 to 8:00 o’clock in the Floriculture Building at the Missoula County Fairgrounds. Participants will have a chance to review future alternatives for transportation, provide input on specific projects, and help decide what transportation projects should be funded. The public is invited to attend several events at the Missoula Senior Center this coming week: a Saturday night dance will be held on Saturday, June 9th from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. and then a Father’s Day lunch and cake walk will be held on Monday, June 11th from 11:30 am to 12:30. If you have any questions about these events or if you’d like information on other activities at the Missoula Senior Center, call 543-7154.

A “miniNaturalist” program for children ages 2 – 5 will be held on Thursday, June 7th, 14th, and 21st from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the Fort Missoula Native Plant Gardens, under the big silver water tower at the Fort. These classes will engage children in the natural world through fun, hands-on activities. The children must be accompanied by an adult and everyone is encouraged to bring a picnic and stay a while. The University of Montana’s spectrum Discovery Area will hold their 3rd annual Weird Science Dance Party this Friday, June 8th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at Caras Park in Missoula. Proceeds from this event will go to benefit the “Science for All Scholarship Fund” which helps children all over MT explore the wonders on hands-on science. Volunteers are also needed to help out with this event. For more information, call 243-4828.

Everyone is invited to celebrate Jeannette Rankin’s Birthday at a potluck party celebration in the Peace Park on Waterworks Hill in Missoula. The potluck will take place on Sunday, June 10th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and you’re encouraged to bring a dish to share, musical instruments, and rocks or sheets to spruce up the peace sign. The Swan Ecosystem Center invites everyone to their 10th annual, “Celebrate the Swan Running Race” that will take place June 23rd. If you’re looking for a challenging course, community support, and unique prizes then this is the race for you. All races are staged between the beautiful Mission Mountains Wilderness and the Bob Marshall Wilderness and all proceeds go to trail maintenance in the Swan Valley.
