Today's Highlight: Community rights activist and author, Paul Cienfuegos will deliver a free public lecture entitled, “Cities across the Country are Exercising Their Right of Self-governance: Will Missoula Be Next?” The talk is on Friday, March 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Gallagher Business Building on The University of Montana mountain campus in Missoula. The Student Involvement Network, the Women and Gender Studies program, and The University Center at The University of Montana in Missoula will begin a Diversity Film Series with a showing of “Wal-Mart: The High Price of a Low Cost.” The film will be shown at 6:00 o’clock tomorrow night, Thursday, March 1st in the University Center and is free and open to the public. The University of Montana Japanese Student Association will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the catastrophic Tohoku Earthquake and tsunami with a dinner supporting the Japan Rising Scholarship fund. The dinner will be held on Saturday, March 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Missoula. To purchase your tickets, or for more information, call Mika at 243-6535.
The Bitterroot Dancers in Hamilton invite the public to a country western dance on Friday, March 2nd. The dance will be held at the Hamilton Grange on Highway 93 just south of Hamilton from 7 – 11 pm. For more information, call 363-4491.
The Friends of the Bitterroot in Hamilton invite the public to a presentation given by author and wildlife biologist, Douglas Chadwick on “The Wolverine Way.” Mr. Chadwick is the author of 10 books and has studied mountain goats, grizzly bears, and wolverines in the Rockies. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3rd at the Hamilton City Hall, 223 2nd Street and is free and open to the public. Call 363-8617 if you’d like more information.
For the First Friday Artwalk in Missoula, the Monte Dolack Gallery will feature “Mythic Moonrise,” a retrospective of the transcendent and surreal mystery of nature. A reception will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the gallery, located at 139 West Front Street. Also, The Montana Museum of Art and Culture will host an opening reception for two new exhibitions, “Nadia Hirohnahka and Matthew “Sweeb”: Black Hole/Whiteout” and “Curiosity: Selections from the Permanent Collection.” The reception will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2nd in the Meloy and Paxon Galleries on the University of Montana campus.
