Making Contact for October 19, 2011 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM [Program Website]
Today's Highlight: "Voices from the Diaspora: Resistance & Community" Riots all over the world are calling on us to get involved in societal change. But what kind of action is required and how do we create a sustained response? We feature a round-table discussion, featuring: musician Daz-I-Kue, educator and former president of Oakland’s School Board, Greg Hodge and Oakland’s Assistant City Administrator Fred Blackwell. They explore the root of political actions from London to Oakland, strategies for activism and their vision for a new community activism that reflects the needs of the African American communities
Utilizing voices and perspectives rarely heard in media, Making Contact focuses on the human realities of politics, the connections between local and global events, and creative possibilities for people to engage in hopeful democratic change. Supported by independent funding sources, Making Contact is free to explore corporate connections to national and international policies.
