If you are a young professional, ages 22 to 39, actively working in the field of natural resources and the environment, the Mansfield Center at the University of Montana may have an opportunity for you to travel to China. An exchange program is being funded by the US Dept of State to travel for 3 weeks to Beijing and Guizhou in May and June of this year. A group of 10 will represent the US followed by a group of 20 from China to visit Montana in the fall. Headwaters Montana is hosting 2 events to view a slide presentation titled “Preserving Heritage from Tibet to the Rockies”. On Saturday January 22nd the showing will be at the Boiler Room in Kalispell and on Monday January 24th at the Crush Wine Bar in Whitefish. Both events begin at 7 pm and are free and open to the public. Donations gladly accepted.

Montana Youth Homes and the Rocky Mountain Development Council are holding a Soiree to raise funds for Montana Youth Homes. This event is being held on Sunday January 23rd at Benny’s Bistro in Helena with tapas and wine, a cabaret show and silent auction. Cost is $40.00. U of M students now have a new way to save college money. The Matched Education Savings Account (MESA) will earn $3 for every $1 saved. Students must meet certain criteria. The Montana Wilderness Institute at the College of Forestry and Conservation on the UM Campus is accepting proposals for grants that support historical research, creative writing and wilderness studies that explore Montana’s land and people. Grants range from 400 to 1000 dollars and are awarded through the Matthew Hansen Endowment. For details call the Wilderness Institute at 243.5361 or go online at www.cfc.umt.edu/wi.
