Considering beginning college? The Missoula Educational Opportunity Center is holding a workshop tonight from 6 to 8:30 at the Missoula Public Library titled ‘Is College Right for Me” Learn about what college life is like, how to get in, how to pay and how to succeed. Call 243-7917 for more information. This event is free and open to the public.

The Five Valleys Audubon and The Native Plant Society are holding a joint meeting on Monday January 10th at 7:30 in room 123 of the Gallagher Building on the UM campus. Ornithologist Paul Hendricks will speak on Woodpeckers and Giant Columnar Cactus in the Sonoran desert. This is a free event open to the public. For additional info, call 543.4860.

In Kalispell, the Flathead Audubon Society will also meet on Monday January 10th. The meeting will be at 7PM at the Summit and the discussion topic will be the 2011 Montana legislation being considered for wildlife and habitats led by Janet Ellis of Montana Audubon. The Western Montana Genealogical Society is meeting on January 11th at 7PM at the Missoula Public library. A program titled ‘Preserving our hard copies’ will be presented by Audra Loyal, a conservation tech at the Mansfield Library and owner of The Vespiary, a book restoration and binding business. At the Butte Public Library, beginning Tuesday January 11th, volunteer homework helpers will be available every Tuesday to assist students with their studies. Available at the South Branch in the Butte Plaza Mall from 3 to 5:30, this service is open for all subjects and all student in K though 12th grades.
