Today's Highlight: Did you know that someone in Montana needs blood every 27 minutes? The Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton and the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive on Thursday, October 29th from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm at the hospital. The Bitterroot Public Library invites the public to two events taking place at the library tomorrow. The first is a “Brown Bag It” book discussion from noon to 1:00 pm that will explore the book, “The Things I’ve Been Silent About: Memories of Azar.” Then at 7:00 pm in the West Meeting Room, the film, “Arranged” will be presented. The University of Montana Campus Recreation will show the action sports film, “Re:Session” at 7:00 pm on Thursday night, October 29th in the University Theatre on The University of Montana campus in Missoula. “Re: Session” documents the true wealth of the mountain experience. The Bitterroot Ecological Awareness Resources will hold its 13th Annual Dancing B.E.A.R. Halloween Party from 7:00 pm to midnight on Friday, October 30th. The party will be held in the Community Center at Hamilton City Hall and will include live music, a costume contest, a silent auction with over 100 items, as well as food and drinks. The forum, “Exploring Community Connections to Reduce Health Care Costs through Prevention and Wellness Initiatives,” will be held Friday, October 30th from 12:30 – 4:00 pm in the Skaggs Building on The University of Montana campus in Missoula. The forum is designed for business owners, human resource directors, insurance providers, clinicians, educators, worksite wellness practitioners, and consumers. To honor “Teen Read Week,” the Whitehall Community Library invites all teens in the area to submit a short story, or a tale that goes beyond the bounds of reality and into the fanciful world of your own creation. Stories must be submitted by October 30th. For more information, call 287-3763.
The Missoula Art Museum will show the film, “Cats of Mirikitani” from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on the next two Sundays, November 1st and 8th. This documentary is an intimate exploration of the lingering wounds of war and the healing powers of friendship and art. The Montana Natural History Center in Missoula invites the public to a presentation on the wonders of Yellowstone National Park given by Michael Leach, former Bear Ranger at the park. Folks in the Stevensville area are invited to a Victorian Masquerade Dance and Pie Social this Halloween evening, October 31st. The party will be held from 7 – 11 pm at 317 Main Street in Stevensville. Come dressed in a Victorian outfit or Halloween costume for an evening of easy-called dances and please bring a pie to share. The Parenting Place in Missoula offers free child care on Monday and Wednesday nights from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. The program allows children to be cared for in a safe and nurturing environment while you take some time to nurture yourself. The MT Dept. of Commerce announces its final 2009 workshop, Licensing Your Technology: Developing the Knowledge and Skills to Net the Best Deal. This workshop, accredited for 6 hours of Continuing Legal Education, will be held on Thursday, November 5th at MT Tech's Student Union Building in Butte. The event will run from 9:00am to 4:00pm and will include lunch and the opportunity for attendees to set up individual counseling sessions at a later time with the presenter, Marti Elder.
