Today's Highlight: Choteau is getting grizzly this Saturday! Due to the Grizzly Marathon, traffic on portions of Bellview and South Bellview Road will be led by pilot cars between 6am and noon. Do you remember the Greenough Park footbridge? It was removed in 2008 to avoid flood damage but you can help bring it back by eating ice cream! Friends of Missoula Parks invite you to an Ice Cream Social this Saturday August 1st, from 3-5pm at the park’s picnic shelter on Monroe Street. Donations are welcome and will benefit this and other Greenough Park improvements. Contact Morgan Valliant at 552-6263 for more information.

Need to brush up on your bear survival skills this summer? Condon’s Swan Valley Bear Resources: 2nd Annual Bear Fair can help. This free event will have presentations by Wind River Bear Institute and their Karelian Bear dogs; Tim Manley - Grizzly Bear Specialist from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks; a bear pepper spray demonstration and much more. Food and beverages will be provided between noon and 2pm. RSVPs are requested for the lunch and can be made by calling 754-3137.

The Western Montana Sustainable Grower’s Union is hosting a tour of four western Montana family farms in the [mo-EEZ] Moiese, MT area. Stops on the route include the Blue Barn Farm, lunch at Thunder Head Gardens as well as the Ploughshare and Lowdown Farms. Discussions will range from legumes and tomatoes to hoop houses and washing technique. The tour will leave from the parking lot just west of the Good Food Store on Saturday, August 1st at 10am, returning by 5pm. A recommended donation of $15 makes this possible. Join economists Patrick Barkey and Paul Polzin today in Kalispell for the 4th Annual Economic Outlook: Midyear Update, presented by The Bureau of Business and Economic Research and the Montana Chamber of Commerce. They will examine Montana’s pace on the road to economic recovery and obstacles along the way. The registration fee is $20 and includes lunch. This event will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn from 12-1:30pm.

The University of Montana’s Flathead Lake Biological Station is having an open house on Wednesday, August 5th from 1 to 5pm. This is your chance to learn about Flathead Lake, enjoy a guided nature walk, check out project displays, and meet staff, students and professors. The station is located along the east shore of the lake, 17 miles north of Polson and 14 miles south of Bigfork off of Highway 35. Call 982-3301 or email flbs@flbs.umt.edu for more information.
