Today's Highlight: Nothing says Montana Country Fun like the 24th annual Alberton Railroad Day Celebration this Saturday, July 18th. Kick up your heels to old time fiddlers, open bluegrass jam sessions in the park and the first annual Firehouse Dance with live country music. This family-friendly event also features street music, a parade at 11:00 am, a pancake breakfast, a 5-k run, and a community Flea Market. The event is free to the public.

This afternoon from 3 – 5 pm, teens ages 11 – 17 are invited to an “Insane Origami” workshop to create wild and crazy origami works of art. The free workshop will be held at the Columbia Falls Branch Library. Contact the teen librarian, Martha Furman at 758-5713 with any questions.

The next meeting of the BPL Fellowship Club in Hamilton will be held Thursday night, July 16th at 6:00 pm. Dr Catherine Ponder will be the featured speaker who will discuss “The Dynamic Laws of Healing.” This free, public event will be held in the West Meeting Room of the Bitterroot Public Library. Families First invites the public to their “Kiddopalooza” this Friday, July 17th from 2 – 8 pm at Caras Park in downtown Missoula. This free event’s activities include local musicians, kids’ activities and experiences, good food, and fun for everyone. Call 721-7690 for more information.

The Missoula Colony 14, a gathering of artists in support of the writer’s craft, invites the public to two upcoming events this Saturday and Sunday in the PARTV Center on the University of Montana campus in Missoula. Panel discussions on “Creating and Marketing New Plays” will be discussed from 10 am to 1 pm. Aspen Hospice of Stevensville will conduct a free Children’s Grief Workshop on Tuesday, July 21st for children ages 6 – 13 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Dr. Mary-Ann Bowman of Aspen Hospice and the UM School of Social Work will facilitate this workshop. The session runs from 5:30 – 8:00 pm with dinner provided and will be held at the Aspen Hospice office at 107 Bell Crossing West. Call 360-2829 for more information.






The Missoula Farmer’s Market will be held every Saturday from 8:30 until noon and Tuesday evenings at 5:45 until 7:15 at Circle Square on the north end of Higgins. The market features fresh-picked produce, flowers, fruit and baked goods.

A farm tour of the Bob Quinn farm, south of Big Sandy will be held next Wednesday, July 22nd at 9:00 am. Speakers at the tour include three MSU agricultural researchers who will discuss organic cropping techniques, soil fertility and weed management, oil seed fuel production, and high protein, dryland corn. The Essential Food Stuff Project will hold a free demonstration given on July 22nd by Fran Wade entitled, “Putting Food By.” Learn how to make and use a solar dryer for preserving fruits, berries, and vegetables as well as how to preserve meats with cures, salt brine and jerking. The demonstration will be held at 7:00 pm at Clementine’s, 265 Bridge Street in Bigfork. Call 837-5196 for more information.

The public is invited to join the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce in Dillon for a free conference on “Renewable Energy & the Future of Beaverhead County.” The conference will be held July 24 and 25th, beginning at 8:30 am in Matthews Hall on the University of Montana Western campus.
