Planned Parenthood in Helena is offering free STD testing every Thursday in April. No appointment is needed, so you can head over to 1500 Cannon St anytime between 1-4pm for a free screening. If you have any questions, you can call them at 443-7676.
The UM Greek system would like to announce an XBox Rock Band tournament to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Missoula. All video gamer rock stars are encouraged to register and compete this Thursday at 7:00pm in the Roxy Theater. They are looking for teams from around the campus and community to register! The team with the highest combined total of Rock Band points and donations raised will win an Xbox 360 with a copy of the video game Rock Band. Call 243-2005 to find out more.
All pet owners in Missoula will be pleased to hear about the Wag Not Drag event sponsored by Health Enhancement Office of the Curry Health Center. Bring your pets to the Oval on the UM campus tomorrow from 10-2 to have pictures taken, get free baths, learn about animal rescues and the services of Go Fetch!, and ask questions to trainers and veterinarians. Prizes will be awarded to the smallest, biggest, cutest, ugliest, and best friend pet at the event. This event is designed to encourage tail wags instead of taking cigarette drags, the perfect combination for pet lovers and the Curry Health Center! Missoula Aging Services would like to inform you about the Hospice Foundation’s annual teleconference, “Diversity and end-of-life care,” which will be broadcast tomorrow from 11:30-2:00pm at Community Medical Center’s Rehab Center day room. Did you know there are new medical grants available for families struggling with child health-related expenses? United Healthcare Children’s Foundation is accepting applications for the 2009 grant program now. Parents and legal guardians may apply for grants of up to $5,000 for child medical services by going to uhccf.org.
The classic Greek tragedy Medea will be presented by the University of Montana Department of Drama and Dance at the Masquer Theater this week and next week. For only $14 (or $12 for students and seniors), you’ll see Euripides’ perceptive portrayal of Medea, a strong and vengeful whose daring final act will bring her grief as well as retribution. This production is the final creative project of third year MFA student and director Deborah Voss, and will star Michelle Edwards in the title role for her final project. CASA for Kida is seeking volunteers to advocate for the abused and neglected children of Flathead County. Speak up for these children in court by becoming a CASA volunteer. For an application, or to find out more about it, call CASA for Kids at 755-7208. A New training session is going to begin in May, but they need your application by April 30th to qualify you.
If you’re interested in the Peace Corps, you can attend one of several informational meetings coming up in the next few days. Discuss the life in the Peace Corps with returned volunteers today at 6:30pm in the Lewis and Clark Library or tomorrow at 4:00pm in O’Connell Hall Room 106 on the Carroll College campus. The University of Montana Faculty Awards Reception will be held tomorrow from
4-6pm in the University Center Ballroom. All are welcome to attend and help celebrate the achievements of the employers of the University who have contributed at the highest levels in their roles on campus.
Also on the University of Montana campus this week are a number of MFA Thesis Exhibitions. If you’re interested in viewing the thesis projects of master’s art students, you can visit the Department of Art in the Social Science Building from now until mid May. Most exhibitions close after 5pm and visitors on Mondays need to make appointments. For more information on master’s student art exhibitions, call 243-2813.
The Hamilton Farmers Market is opening on May 2nd for its 17th season with a joyous spring festival celebrating all the children of the Hamilton community. Local day schools and kids programs will host activities including chicken bingo, the return of May dances and all kinds of other stuff! Al children (and adults too) are invited to come to Bedford Street by the Bitterroot Valley Historical Society Museum to celebrate at the Hamilton Farmer’s Market. Call 961-0004 for details.
