Bass lived in Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi before moving to northwest Montana’s Yaak Valley. A former petroleum geologist and wildlife biologist, he is the author of twenty-three books, including his newest, Why I Came West: A Memoir, and The Wild Marsh, which is due out later this year.
Bass is a board member of the Yaak Valley Forest Council, which has long been active in efforts to protect as wilderness the last roadless areas in the Yaak Valley of the Kootenai National Forest.
