Today's Highlight: The Missoula Senior Citizen’s Center invites the public to participate today in T’ai Chi classes, Scrabble, Pinochle, or Bridge games. For more information on these, as well as other activities the Center sponsors throughout the week, call 543-7154.

The Southwest Montana Arts Council invites the public to “Lunch in the Park” on Thursday, July 24th from noon to 1:00 pm at Jaycee Park in Dillon. Featured is a free concert given by Russ Nasset and the Revelators. This is a free event and you can bring your own picnic lunch, or food will also be available for purchase. Call 683-7772 for more details.

The Madison Valley History Association of Ennis invites the public to a car show, barbeque, and sock hop this Saturday, July 26th. The car show begins at 4:00 pm in the School parking lot, the barbeque will be in the Ennis Lion’s Club Park from 5:00 – 6:30, and the sock hop will be held from 7:00 – 10:00 pm at the Elementary School Gym. The cost for this event is $20 per person, and children under 12 are admitted free if accompanied by a parent.

Alliance Francaise of Missoula is sponsoring a French Camp for kids ages 8 – 17 at Georgetown Lake from July 27 – August 1st. The cost of this camp is $325. To register by Friday, July 25th, or for complete details regarding this camp, please call 549-9722.

The Environmental Ethics Institute of Missoula will be conducting a weekend seminar titled, “Women, Health, the Environment, and Social Justice.” Dr. Karen Warren, environmental thinker at Macalster College, will lead this two-day workshop exploring the interconnections among gender, health, environmental deterioration, and social justice. The workshop will be held on August 1st and 2nd at the new Journalism Building on the University of Montana campus. Dr. Warren will also be giving a free public lecture on this topic on July 31st at 7:00 pm at The University of Montana’s Gallagher Business Building. The Sanders County Relay for Life will be held from 5:30 pm to 10:00 am on August 1st and 2nd at the Plains High School Track and Football Field. If you or your organization is interested in participating, call 826-4464 for more information.

The Watershed Education Network is offering a fly fishing workshop in western Montana for participants 14 years or older. The workshop will take place the week of August 4 – 8, with a possible overflow week of August 11 – 15. The program will explore water stewardship, place-based writing, and sense of place recreation. The cost is $300 with limited scholarships available. To apply, contribute toward a scholarship or for more information, go to the Web site www.montanawatershed.org or call 541-WATER.


The Western Montana Mental Health Center in Missoula is currently recruiting foster care providers for adults with disabling mental illness. Providers are licensed through the state of Montana and receive a stipend for their services. Training sessions for those interested in becoming foster care providers will be held the first week of August. To register for this training, or for more information about adult foster care, call Naomi at 532-9700.
