Today's Highlight: The Last Chance Public Radio Association is having an Annual Meeting tonight at 6:00 pm at the home of the Association’s President, Dawn North. The location is 707 2nd Avenue in Helena and the meeting is free and open to all. For more information please contact Dawn at 443-4284.
The North Lake County Planning and Zoning Committee will hold two community meetings this week, seeking input from residents of North Lake County. The first meeting is tonight, July 22 at 7:00pm. It will be held at the “BruMar” Event Center in Ferndale. The second meeting will be tomorrow, July 23 at 7:00pm at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Bigfork. Both meetings are expected to last approximately one and a half hours. “Starting and Financing a Business Workshop” will be held in Butte on July 23. The workshop will be from 10:00am to noon and will include information on writing a business plan, marketing, cash flow projections and more. The workshop will be held at the Business Development Center in Butte, 305 W Mercury, Room 209. The cost is $10 and registration is required. To register call 782-7333 ext 305.
The Federation of Fly Fishers invites the public to their “fish forum,” a series of fisheries conservation lectures at Whitefish High School on July 23 from 1pm to 4pm. A variety of topics will be discussed and each will last about 30 minutes followed by a question answer period. This event is free and open to the public, at 600 E 2nd St. in Whitefish. You can attend lectures at The Travelers’ Rest State Park in Lolo throughout July. On Wednesday, July 23 at 7pm “How Fire Shaped Lewis & Clark’s West.” The lecturer is Jack Puckett. On Thursday July 24 at 7pm Hal Stearns will discuss the humanist element of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. All programs are free and open to the public. The Missoula Art Museum encourages all teens to attend their Teen Open Studio Nights which will run each month. This month’s event is Thursday July 24th from 6-8pm with Aaron Farseth, a professional designer who creates concert posters for local bands such as The Volumen and The Gourds. Aaron will be doing a screen-printing demo, teaching techniques that can be applied to a variety of projects. The event is free and will be at the Missoula Art Museum, located at 335 N. Pattee. In Missoula, the Tibetan Children’s Education Foundation hosts “The Truth About Tibet” on Thursday, July 24th. The lecture is from 5:30-7:30pm. It will be at 300 Evans St. Speakers include Karma Tensom, Valerie Hellermann and Jim Petersen, all of whom will speak of their first-hand experiences and travels in Tibet, touching on issues of the recent protests and strife in the country. This event is free and open to the public although donations are appreciated. Refreshments will be served. For more information call 550-2511.
In Missoula, The University of Montana’s Physics and Astronomy Department invites everyone to explore the Big Sky at the Blue Mountain Observatory Open House on Friday July 25. The viewing begins at 10:30pm. Before heading out call to confirm that weather conditions will permit viewing at 243-5179. This event is totally free. The Historic St. Mary’s Mission and Museum in Stevensville is hosting an authentic Mexican Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday July 26th at the St. Mary’s Family Center. The dinner will be from 5:00 to 7:30pm and will include a silent auction. For adults the dinner is $7 and for children 7-12 yrs it is $4. Children 6 and under eat for free and all proceeds benefit the Mission.
