Today's Highlight: On Thursday, July 16th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm the Missoula Art Museum will conduct a gallery talk featuring exhibiting artist Gaylen Hansen. This is their “Grasshopper Artini” event. If YOUR organization depends on volunteers, join the “Community Celebration of Volunteers” at Caras Park in Missoula on Thursday, July 17th from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. This volunteer recognition event includes music, fun, drawings and more. For more information, call the Western Montana Volunteer Center at 543-6691.

The Travelers’ Rest Preservation and Heritage Association of Lolo invites the public to two events this weekend. On Saturday, July 19th at 7:00 pm, Stuart Crook will discuss how discovering or disproving the existence of an all-water route to the Pacific Ocean became a central goal of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Also featured this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday is Lloyd Priest will demonstrate the use of a variety of historic flint-lock firearms. Both programs will take place at the Travelers’ Rest State Park, located ¼ mile west of Lolo on Highway 12. The Missoula Senior Citizens’ Center is sponsoring a day trip to the Bigfork Playhouse to attend the play, “Footloose,” at the Bigfork Playhouse. Also planned is a dinner at the Bigfork Inn following the 2:00 pm performance. The cost of this trip is $88 and arrangements can be made by calling 543-7154.

The US Small Business Administration, the Headwaters RC&D, and SCORE of Butte are sponsoring a business development workshop at the Business Development Center, 305 West Mercury. This workshop will be held from 10:00 am to noon on Wednesday, July 23rd and will cover information regarding business plans, marketing, cash flow projections, industry profiles, and loan information. The cost of the workshop is $10 and registrations can be made by calling 782-7333, ext. 305.

The Western Montana Mental health Center in Missoula is currently recruiting foster care providers for adults with disabling mental illness. Providers are licensed through the state of Montana and receive a stipend for their services. Training sessions for those interested in becoming foster care providers will be held the first week of August. To register for this training, or for more information about adult foster care, call Naomi at 532-9700.

The Educational Merit Foundation seeks volunteers to host a high school student from Europe, South America, or Asia for the coming school year. These students are carefully screened and arrive with medical insurance and spending money for their stay. For more information, call 1-800-467-8363.
