Today's Highlight: Children and staff from the Watson’s Children Shelter will be hosting a car wash to raise money for residents of the facility to attend the Western Montana Fair. The car wash will be this Thursday, July 10th, from 10:30am until 2 pm at the Holiday Gas Station, on the corner of Reserve and South Ave. in Missoula. Call 549-0058 for more details.
Are interested in wildlife and the need to have travel corridors between important habitats? Join the group, American Wildlands for its 30th Anniversary celebration happening at the Emerson Cultural Center in Bozeman, July 14th through 19th. International speakers include Harvey Locke of the Yellowstone to Yukon program, elephant expert Iain Douglas-Hamilton, well-known author Roderick Nash and director of Patagonia’s Environmental Program, Rick Ridgeway. The Missoula Community Co-op will be hosting a presentation and discussion on Park Slope Food Co-op, Saturday, July 12th at the Quaker Meeting House, 1861 South 12th St., West in Missoula from 10am until noon with a potluck supper to follow. Park Slope Food Co-op is a 35-year old food cooperative in Brooklyn, New York where only members may shop and all members work and receive up to 40% off their groceries. The Missoula Community Co-op is based on this model. To register call 542-3611.
On Saturday, July 12th from 7pm until 9pm, the Montana Discovery Foundation and the Helena National Forest will be offering the July moonlight hike along the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail from Flesher Pass. This free hike takes place on a well-maintained trail and is family-friendly. Call 495-3711 to make reservations.
The Missoula Chapter of Harley Owners Group is holding a Poker Run on Saturday, July 12th to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This is the 7th year of the event which will take riders around the Mission Mountains and Flathead Lake. The event is open to the public and all motorcycles are welcomed. The event will take place at the Harley Davidson dealership located at 5106 E. Harrier Dr., in Missoula. Call 880-0913 for more information or to pick up your rider pledge packet in advance.
A quilt show entitled, “In My Backyard” is open for public viewing on Friday, July 11th from 10am until 6pm and Saturday, July 12th from 10am to 4pm, at the Stevensville High School Gym, 300 Park Street in Stevensville. The show is hosted by the Sapphire Quilt Club and will have over 300 quilts displayed along with demonstrations, prizes, raffles and food. There is a $3 admission charge at the door. Volunteers are need for the Missoula Children’s Museum’s summer fundraising event called “Kiddopalooza” happening Friday, July 18th from 3pm to 9pm at Caras Park in Missoula. Volunteers are needed in the morning to help set up, during the event for many different assignments and then to clean up after the event. Call 541-7529 if you have some time to help support The Children’s Museum of Missoula which is part of Families First.
Habitat for Humanity of Missoula is having it’s fourth annual Youth Week, July 15th through 19th to introduce students to the organization and offer them opportunities to volunteer. Young people aged 5 to 20, can participate in age appropriate projects and workshops including creating stepping stones, craft projects, habitat & nature studies to actually building houses for volunteers over 16. Youth volunteers are also needed to help with lunches and snacks, assist with younger children activities and photograph the week’s events.
