Tonight is Artini, at the Missoula Art Museum from 5:30 to 9 PM. This free event features a live performance by the Front Street Jazz Group, a discussion with exhibiting artist Christopher McElroy and a wide selection of beverages and treats. Call 728-0447 for more information.
Friday evening, May 16th at 7pm, there will be a Highway 35 safety discussion at the Yellow Bay Clubhouse located on Hwy 35 near mile market 18 which is halfway between Polson and Bigfork. All residents and users of Highway 35 East of Flathead Lake are invited to attend for an informal discussion of safety on the highway. Saturday, May 17th beginning at 2pm is the Armed Forces Commemoration and USS Missoula model Dedication at Building T-316 at Fort Missoula. Speakers, exhibits, refreshments and a military vehicle show are featured. For more details, call 549-5346.
The Wild Divide Chapter of the Montana Wilderness Association will hold a Wilderness Walks Kick off event this evening, May 15th, from 6 to 8 PM at the Helena College of Technology Lecture Hall, 1115 N. Roberts in Helena. Jim Horan will make a special presentation. This event is free and open to everyone. Call 431-7506 to learn more.
Ravalli County Household Hazardous Waste Days are this Friday from noon to 6 pm and Saturday, May 17th from 8 am to 6 pm. Oil based paints and stains, solvents, fertilizers, pesticides, used motor oil, gasoline and fluorescent bulbs will be accepted free of charge. Latex paints and computer waste will not be accepted. This event is free to Ravalli County residents and takes place in the north lot of the Ravalli County Fairgrounds in Hamilton. Call 375-6565 for a complete list of what will be accepted.
The YWCA of Missoula will be offering a support group for adult female survivors of sexual assault beginning on Monday, May 19th. This weekend in Great Falls, the general public is invited to attend the 2008 Malmstrom Air Force Base open house from 8 am to 4 pm on May 17th and 18th. The Canadian Forces Snowbirds Aerial Demonstration Team will be headlining the event. Huey’s, Super Hornets and Thunderbolt II’s are also scheduled to perform in addition to many displays and tours. Artist Rich Adams will present a drawing workshop Saturday, May 17th from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Artist’s Shop, 304 N. Higgins St., in downtown Missoula. This is a free workshop and is open to anyone. Learn about the tools and techniques used to create realistic pencil drawings. You can also bring your own drawings for feedback.
The 4th Annual Weed Round-up will take place this Saturday from 9 am to 12:30 pm at the Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge. Come pull weeds, enjoy a free lunch and participate in prize drawings. Last year 1,500 pounds of weeds were pulled. Call 777-5552 to register.
Parents Let’s Unite for Kids also known at PLUK, is holding a “Wines of the West” fundraiser Friday, May 16th from 6:30 to 10 pm at Montana Harley-Davidson, located off I-90 at the Airway Exit in Missoula. This organization unites parents, professionals, families and friends of children with special needs to participate fully in educational and community opportunities. The evening will include wine tasting, food bites and musical entertainment. Admission is $25 per couple or $15 for individuals.
