The Sentinel High School Jazz Bands will be performing for the public this evening at 7:30pm in Missoula. The event will take place in the Margaret Johnson Theatre at Sentinel High School and will include a wide variety of jazz music including swing, standards and funk. Western Montana Real Estate Investors Association, a local non-profit organization, holds their monthly meeting tonight at 7 pm at the Montana Club on Reserve Street in Missoula. For girls interested in learning outdoor and leadership skills this summer, the YWCA of Missoula is registering for the GUTS! Leadership program. Trips are organized by age level and outdoor experience and promise to be the “adventure of a lifetime.” Activities include canoeing, back packing, mountain biking, rock climbing and more. The 31st International Wildlife Film Festival is coming to Missoula beginning Saturday May 10th and running through the 17th. There are special presentations, a traveling photo exhibit, wildlife art shows, a western barn dance, an awards banquet and gala as well as a week of award winning wild life films. The whole event kicks off with the WildWalk Parade and WildFest at noon on Saturday May 10th which is free and open to the public. The Missoula area high school graduating classes of 2008 will be hosting an all-night party for area high school students on graduation day, Saturday, June 7th at the UC Center at the University of Montana, Missoula. Doors open at 8:30pm and tickets will be sold in area high schools prior to the event as well as at the door. Over 600 students are expected to attend this safe, festive and alcohol-free celebration. Donations of fun items to be given away as prizes during the event are welcomed. Call 728-5188 for more information.
It’s getting to be time to plan ahead for summer vacation activities and the 70th annual National Folk Festival is coming to Butte, July 11th through the 13th. This free festival is one of the country’s largest and most prestigious celebrations of the arts where you can explore the richness and diversity of American culture through music, dance, parades, traditional crafts, storytelling and food. Music from many cultures including Cajun, blues, bluegrass, gospel, Irish, western swing, mariachi, Africian and more will be featured.
