Today's Highlight: The Sierra Club will host a free presentation on Lolo Peak’s Elk, Water and Recreation Resources TONIGHT at 6:00 p.m. in room 333 of the University Center on the campus of The University of Montana in Missoula. The
program will include experts who will discuss how Lolo Peak’s natural resources could be impacted by resort development. For more information, contact the Sierra Club at 549-1142.

TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m. author Mark Matthews will present a lecture on the history of the first decade of smoke jumping at the Seeley Lake Historical Museum. Matthews will also speak at the Boulder Library on Thursday, April 24th, and again on Saturday, April 26th at the Clancy Library. For additional information call 677- 3398.

The Second Annual Missoula Ideas Festival will present a screening of the film, “Islam in America.” The screening will be TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m. in the Hellgate High School Auditorium, located at 900 South Higgins, Connell Street entrance. The film presents a series of portraits depicting Islamic lifestyles in a post 9/11 America. For further details, call Kiandra at 207-5734.

This year’s “Spring Thaw 2008” will take place Thursday, April 24th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the Oval at the University of Montana in Missoula. This year’s festival is a relaxed, family-friendly program to celebrate the beginning of spring with activities that will include live music, art vendors, interactive games, and children’s activities. The Helena Music Teachers’ Association is hosting a pancake breakfast and silent auction on Saturday morning, April 26th from 8:30 – 11:30. The benefit for camp scholarships will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church, 1,000 Helena Ave. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 10 years old and under. The “E-Rase your E-Waste – Electronic Waste Collection,” organized by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality and local partners will be held at the Missoula County Fairgrounds on April 26th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Items such as personal computers, stereos, TVs, VCRs, cell phones and other electronics will be collected and recycled. Residents may drop off 5 items for free and five to ten items will cost one dollar each. Call Travis of the Missoula City-County Health Dept. at 258-4890 for further details.

The Daly School Community Garden is hosting a volunteer work day on Saturday, April 26th beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the garden, located behind Daly Elementary School off of Kurtz Lane. The day will be a spring cleaning day, so please bring gloves and wear work clothes. A chili lunch and treats will be provided for volunteers. Call Ellie at 381-2564 for more information.

The graduating class of 2008 at the University Of Montana College Of Technology Culinary Arts Program in Missoula is hosting a Capstone Dinner with a Louisiana Cajun Cuisine theme. The 5-course dinner is complete with an oyster bar and wine and beverage service. Proceeds will go to the Culinary Arts scholarship fund and tickets are $75 per person. Big Sky High School in Missoula will host its second annual “Science Circus” on Saturday, April 26th in the school’s gymnasium. Doors will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and admission is $3 per person. This is an event for elementary and middle school children and their families where you can explore the laws of science. Included are 100 different “stations” ranging from flaming snowballs, a Velcro wall, and tie dying. For more information, contact Brandon at 728-2400, ext. 8653.

Dr. Jane Goodall, world-renowned primatologist, environmentalist, and humanitarian will deliver a “Reason for Hope” lecture at 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 28th at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse on the campus of Montana State University in Bozeman. Dr. Goodall, who is best known for her landmark studies of chimpanzees in Tanzania, is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and is a United Nations Messenger of Peace. There is no admission charge, but seating is limited. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 994-4395 for more information.
