New Dimensions Radio for March 31, 2008 9:30 PM - 10:30 PM [Program Website]
Today's Highlight: "The Evolution of Darwin's Message," with David Loye
In Charles Darwin's The Descent of Man, the term "survival of the fittest" appears twice, and one of those entries is an apology for the other. The word "love" appears ninety-five times. Darwin writes about moral sensitivity ninety-two times, and about mind and the brain two hundred times. With this discovery, Dr. David Loye identified Darwin as an early humanistic psychologist, and even finds a scientific foundation for the appearance of Jesus. And yet, this important part of Darwin's work remained hidden for more than one hundred years. In this deeper understanding of the work, Dr. Loye finds clues to solving the political, cultural, and environmental devastation he sees in the world today. He points to Darwin's insights and tells us, "What it is saying over and over again is, if we live by these precepts that come out of all this work-love, moral sensitivity, education-if we do all these things, we don't need more research. If we simply do all these things, we have a chance. If we don't, we're not going to make it. We're facing the wipe-out of our humanity."
Since 1973, New Dimensions has been exploring the landscape of possibilities of a more just, sustainable and compassionate world by having deep dialogues with individuals who are actively making a creative contribution in the world.
New Dimensions has interviewed hundreds of the greatest minds on the planet such as the late mythologist Joseph Campbell, poet Maya Angelou and physicist David Bohm. It has featured Pulitzer prize winners E.O. Wilson from Harvard and poet/ecologist Gary Snyder.
Primarily the medium used to communicate these ideas is radio. New Dimensions national series is heard, for the most part, on National Public Radio affiliates and other public stations. This flagship series airs weekly on over 350 stations around the U.S. and another 300 stations in Australia on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. It can also be heard 24/7 here on the New Dimensions website.
