Musicians' Spotlight for March 26, 2008 11:00 PM - 11:30 PM
Today's Highlight: "John Floridis hosts Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars Part 2" John Floridis continues his visit with Reuben Koroma of the Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars in part two of a two part program. The history of this unique musical group originates in tragedy, the forced evacuation of its members along with hundreds of thousands of people in the late 1990's from their native country of Sierra Leone to neighboring Guinea. Reuben, a professional musician before the exile, used music as a way to relieve his own stress and trauma and that of his fellow refugees. The group was born of this experience as others joined him along the way including his wife Grace and a Black Nature, a young orphan with a gift for rap.
Their story continues to this day to as a celebration of musical triumph over adversity and hardship. The group released a self-titled CD and was featured in a full length documentary film and now tours the world sharing their story of inspiration.

Shawn Colvin, Patty Larkin, and Leo Kottke have all stopped by the Montana Public Radio studios to play a little and talk with Brian Kopper and John Floridis. Performers talk about the inspiration behind their music and what it's like to both create and perform the music.
Montana artists like Zoe Wood and Wilson & McKee get equal time. Each week, hosts Brian Kopper and John Floridis, composers and performers themselves, give listeners a glimpse into the lives and art of the modern day troubadour.
