Today's Highlight: The Deep Bay Center in Lakeside is offering the public a free Day of Renewal which will feature local practitioners of alternative medicine and spiritual guidance and will include a wide variety of individual sessions, classes, and demonstrations. The Day of Renewal will take place this Saturday, March 29th from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. For program details, call 844-2611.

This Sunday, March 30th at 2:00 pm, Habitat for Humanity will hold the first Spring Ground Breaking ceremony of the 2008 building season at 4213 Diagon Lane in Missoula. To get there from Reserve Street: turn west on Expressway and travel one mile. Turn right on Majestic and follow the signs. Call 549-8210 if you have any questions.

The Blackfoot River Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its Ninth Annual Blackfoot River Chapter Banquet at 5:00 pm on April 12th in the Lincoln Community Hall in Downtown Lincoln. The cost for this dinner and a year of membership is $45 for one member and $65 for a couple. Please register by March 31st to be entered in this year’s Early Bird Shotgun Drawing. Supporters of Abuse Free Environments in Hamilton is currently recruiting volunteers to assist with its 24-hour crisis hotline to provide services for domestic abuse and sexual assault. An extensive training session will begin on Monday, March 31st from 6:00 – 9:00 pm in the SAFE offices, 150 Morning Star Way. For more information, or to register, call Wendy at 363-2793.

A conference designed to create a forum for dialogue about tribal knowledge guardianship and to discuss issues of indigenous research and data collection will be held April 15 – 17th at the University Center on the University of Montana campus in Missoula. More than 25 breakout workshops in three sessions will be held and the conference will close on Thursday with a moderated discussion and open mic for declaration of commitments from 3:00 – 4:30 pm. Conference registration is $150 before April 1st with a one-day registration rate of $75 and special student rates are also available. Call Patty at 243-5403 if you would like more information.

The Friends of the Butte Public Library will host the free program, “Fire and Brimstone: The North Butte Mining Disaster of 1917,” with author Michael Punke at 7:00 pm next Tuesday, April 1st at the Library. Please contact the Library at 723-3361 for more information.

The Flathead Audubon Society of Kalispell is offering a “Beauty of Birds” course for those interested in learning how to identify birds. The course will include birding experts and a field trip. Classes will be held from 6 – 8 pm on the first four Sundays in April -- April 2, 9, 16, and 23rd—in the Flathead High School, 644 4th Ave West. The cost of the course is $10. The Headwaters RC &D of Butte is holding a Homebuyers Education Class on April 2nd and 3rd in the Sheridan High Media Room in Sheridan, MT. Presented in the 2-night course will be information on budgeting and credit, the mortgage process, homeowners insurance, and other aspects of homeownership. The cost of the course is $10. “Beadwork and Mixed Media collage classes for students ages 12 – 16 will take place at the Missoula Art Museum every Thursday in April from 3 – 5 pm. Students will learn basic beadwork techniques and complete a beadwork piece of their own design. The cost of this class is $20 and you can register by calling Jeanette at 728-0447.

The Missoula Community School invites the adult public to a “Taste Trifecta: Wine, Chocolate, and Coffee” on Saturday, April 5th from 7 – 10 pm. Included in the $20 ticket price are tastings of wine, chocolate, and coffee, live jazz music, and a Silent Auction with items to fit any budget. A limited number of tickets may be purchased at Rockin’ Rudy’s or at Posh Chocolate. Call the Missoula Community School at 542-2833 if you’d like additional information.
