New Dimensions Radio for March 17, 2008 9:30 PM - 10:30 PM [Program Website]
Today's Highlight: "Consciousness Inside A Black Hole," with Manjir Samanta-Laughton, M.D. We've decoded the human genome. We can clone all kinds of creatures, and infuse a tomato with a fish's genes. But how much do we really know about life and its origins? We can travel to Mars and count the stars in other galaxies, but do we really understand black holes and the big bang? Dr. Manjir Samanta-Laughton says the big questions of science remain unanswered. Her work lies at the cutting edge of physics, at the nexus of science and spirituality. Where other scientists look for data to support their theories, she lets the data inform hers-and finds evidence of the sacred everywhere she looks. "Creation is happening all the time," she says, "at every single level, every level of the universe, from the galactic super massive black hole to our atoms, to our chakras-every single level has infinity at the center, and is bringing in light from infinity to what we call 'this world.'" Dr. Samanta-Laughton's enthusiasm is matched only by the fascinating possibilities she describes in an interview you'll be talking about for days. After all, if God is emerging through the nearest black hole, surely there's hope for our beautiful little planet.
Since 1973, New Dimensions has been exploring the landscape of possibilities of a more just, sustainable and compassionate world by having deep dialogues with individuals who are actively making a creative contribution in the world.
New Dimensions has interviewed hundreds of the greatest minds on the planet such as the late mythologist Joseph Campbell, poet Maya Angelou and physicist David Bohm. It has featured Pulitzer prize winners E.O. Wilson from Harvard and poet/ecologist Gary Snyder.
Primarily the medium used to communicate these ideas is radio. New Dimensions national series is heard, for the most part, on National Public Radio affiliates and other public stations. This flagship series airs weekly on over 350 stations around the U.S. and another 300 stations in Australia on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. It can also be heard 24/7 here on the New Dimensions website.
