Today's Highlight: The Violence Free Crisis line in Kalispell is seeking volunteers. There are a number of opportunities for people who value compassion, listening, patience and hope – with the crisis hotline, the children’s program and the teen PEACE volunteers . Training begins today, March 4th. If you are interested in volunteering, call Carolyn to schedule an interview at 752-4735.

The Elkhorn Working Group in Helena is holding a public meeting today from 6-9pm at the Red Lion Colonial Hotel. The purpose of the meeting is to review the findings and recommendations which resulted from the Elkhorn vegetation study. Current and past management of elk and cattle will be reviewed and suggestions taken for future management. For more information call 721-9420.

In Missoula you can take classes to learn how to build with Habitat for Humanity. The building training classes will help new volunteers and new habitat families learn more about how homes are built. The class happen Tuesday and Thursday evenings from March 4th to March 20th at the UM College of Technology – west campus.

The Bitterroot Public Library is starting a new Writers Focus Group. There will be an organizational meeting on Wednesday March 5th in the library’s West meeting room at 7pm. Meeting topics will include what genres of writing will be encompassed, how often the group will meet, what types of activities there will be, etc. To learn more call Nansu Roddy at 363-1670.

In Missoula – Living Art of Montana is offering an 8-week Cancer, Courage & Creativity workshop… meeting on Thursdays from March 6th to May 1st. This is a free workshop for people who have or have had cancer. The group meets at 2925 N Reserve St ( off Tina Blvd). Please register by tomorrow - March 5th by calling 549-5329.

In Lolo, the Traveler’s Rest Chapter of the Lewis & Clark Heritage Foundation will host a free lecture by surveyor, engineer, and historian Bill Weikel, at the Lolo Community Center on Thursday March 6th at 7:00pm. Weikel will show the equipment that explorers used and will discuss how they were able to map and document the lands that they explored.

In Missoula, The UM Peace and Justice Film Series is having a free screening of the documentary film – The Future of Food on Thursday March 6th at 5:30 and 7:30pm in the UC Theater. The film looks at genetic engineering and its effects on agriculture. Guest Josh Slotnik from Garden City Harvest will be on hand to answer questions after the film.




In Ronan - the Ronan Woman’s Club is holding its 22nd Annual Arts & Crafts Flea Market fundraiser on Saturday March 8th from 9am-4pm at the Ronan Community Center. Coffee, beverages, snacks and lunch will be available on site. To reserve a space or for information call Alice at 676-5079.

In Missoula at the Senior Center… You can attend a Bingo Party on Saturday, March 8th from 2-5pm. All ages are welcome and it’s a benefit for a group of Student Ambassadors who are traveling to Western Europe this summer. Bingo cards are $1 each or 6 for $5. Also on March 8th at the Senior Center the Heart to Heart dance happens from 8-11pm admission is $5 and all ages are welcome

In Missoula – the Western Montana Gay & Lesbian Community Center is holding is 3rd annual Black & White Ball on Saturday March 8th at the Double Tree Hotel. The theme of the evening is “love is not black and white” and attire can be funky to formal. The evening features danceable jazz music by Full Grown Men, appetizers by Finn & Porter and a celebration cake by Margaret Ambrose-Barton. Tickets are $40 and can be obtained at the website gaymontana-dot-org or by calling 543-2224.

This spring a group of skilled volunteers calling themselves Montanans Assisting New Orleans ( or MANO) will be traveling south to help rebuild homes in the lower 9th ward. MANO will be working in New Orleans March 24th to 28th. The project is funded by community contributions through the sponsorship of Home Resource and is currently seeking volunteers and donations.
