Today's Highlight: "GlobalFest 2008 and Looking Down the Road Ahead"
Tonight's program is from the annual GlobalFest concert marathon in New York City, the biggest one day global music extravaganza in the country. Featured are choice concerts by: Fallou Dieng, a rising star of Senegalese mbalax; 84-year-old Dominican son maestro Puerto Plata; master accordionist Chango Spasiuk playing Argentina's chamamé style; and others. Also, a debut of new projects by major artists such as Orchestre Baobab and Toumani Diabate that will be landmark African releases for 2008.
A one-hour weekly showcase of music and information from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas. Hosted by Georges Collinet from Cameroon, Afropop Worldwide draws on an unprecedented array of reporters, artists, and cultural guides to present an hour that is authoritative, comprehensive, and hugely entertaining.
