Today's Highlight:
A giant rummage sale is currently being organized in the Missoula area to raise money for the Montana Human Rights Network Legal Defense Fund. Rummage of all shapes and sizes will be accepted by February 20th and you can call Beth at 728-4711 to arrange a pick up or drop off. Donation receipts for tax purposes are available.
The residents of Hunter's Glen are sponsoring a teddy bear drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Missoula. Please drop off your new and gently loved teddy bears and other stuffed animals to Hunter's Glen and know that every donation will brighten a child's day.
Real Meals, a project of the North-Missoula Community Development Corporation, will hold its next meal prepared and shared by women on Thursday, February 14th from 5:00 – 9:00 pm at the Orchard Gardens Community Barn, 210 N. Grove Street in Missoula. A suggested donation is $7 or whatever you can contribute and EBT cards are accepted. Call Kate for details, or transportation arrangements at 728-2369.
The AM String Band will be playing at a series of old-time country dances featuring squares, contras, circles, reels, waltzes, polkas and more. The tour includes a performance at the Boulder Elementary School at 7:30 pm this Friday, February 15th, the Union Hall in Missoula on Friday, February 22nd at 7:30 and finally at the Leon Community Hall in Charlo at 7:00 pm on Saturday February 23rd. The American Legion Post 94 will host its annual, "Valentine Prime Rib Dinner and Auction," this Saturday, February 16th at St Mary's Family Center in Stevensville. Tickets are $25. The dinner is open to the public and will include numerous raffle and door prizes. A cocktail hour will begin at 6:00 pm and the dinner will be served at 7:00. The Missoula Folklore Society is sponsoring a "Tropicontra" community folk dance for the public this Saturday, February 16th from 7:30 to 11:00 pm in the Union Hall. Live music will be performed by the Sleeping Child String Band and everyone is encouraged to imagine they're in the South Seas and wear their grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts. Tickets are $8 general and $6 for members. Call 243-5153 if you have any questions.
The Montana Natural History Center in Missoula is hosting a Wildlife Detective camp this Saturday at 2:00 pm for kids 5 years and older. Learn how to identify common animal tracks, read a mystery, and take a walk to detect and discover local animal tracks. The charge for this camp is 50 cents for children, $1 for adults and is free to members. Call The Montana Natural History Center at 327-0405 if you'd like more information on this camp or any others the Center is sponsoring.
Families First of Missoula is sponsoring a "Playdate for Parents" from 7:30 – 11:30 pm this Saturday, February 16th at Dauphine's Café and Bakery, 130 East Broadway. This fundraiser benefiting Families First parenting programs will feature the comedy routine, "A Stimulating Evening" by Teresa Waldorf and Ann Szalda-Petree. There will be raffle prizes, music, a no-host bar and more. Tickets are $10 and childcare is available upon request. Please call 721-7690 for more information.
The Missoula Senior Center will host an Old Time Community Dance for the public on Saturday afternoon, February 16th, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Bev Young will teach and call the dances which will include old time square, circle and line dances. This dance is for all ages and no previous experience or partners are required. Tickets are $2 for members and $3 fro non-members. Call 543-7154 with any questions.
The Montana Mental Health Association is seeking young people under the age of 24 to create media projects for a Suicide Prevention Media Contest. If interested, you must register in order to receive a booklet of information on suicide prevention. The Reel Books Club, for ages 13 to 18, returns to the Missoula Public Library next Wednesday, February 20th at 6:00 pm to discuss the book, "The Princess Diaries," and watch the movie. The Missoula Building Industry Association invites the public to join them on February 20th for their GMM meeting at the Doubletree Edgewater Hotel. The US Small Business Administration, the Headwaters RC &D Area, Inc., and the Headwaters Small Business Development Center of Butte will host a work shop on evaluating a business idea. This workshop will provide information on cash flow projections, industry profiles, loan information, and how to write a business plan. The workshop will be held from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm next Wednesday, February 20th and you must register by calling Deanna or Sandy at 782-7333. The cost is $10.
The Montana Cattleman's Association Foundation invites the public to make a contribution to the "Beef on Every Plate" program. The goal of the program is to process 100 cattle to feed Montana residents through a distribution of beef by the Montana Food Bank Network.
