Today's Highlight: Childcare Resources of Missoula is sponsoring a 5-session workshop for those of you who may be looking for a better way to deal with discipline and child guidance. The workshop covers the Love and Logic philosophy for the early childhood years in which practical techniques to avoid anger, share control and encourage responsibility in the children are taught. On Thursday, February 7th the Field Representative for Senator John Tester is offering Outreach hours in Superior at the Mineral County Extension Office, 301 2nd Ave. East, from 10 – 11 am. Constituents are welcome to visit to share concerns, information, and ideas and possibly open casework. The Children’s Museum of Missoula is offering a series of interactive programs called the “World of Wonders” for children ages 3 – 9. Join the Children’s Museum of Missoula this Thursday, February 7th and next Tuesday, February 12th at 3:30 pm for story telling, interactive games, music and movement, art projects and science experiments. The Lupus Support Group, including Fibromyalgia and Auto-Immune Diseases, will be meeting on Friday, February 8th from 7 – 9 pm at the Summit Conference Room #3 in Kalispell. The topic for this month’s meeting is Managing Your Health Information and Care. Call 837-1055 with any questions.
The Missoula Public Library, located at 301 East Main Street, will be hosting two events this weekend: On Friday, February 8th at 7 pm, the on-going World Wide Cinema Program will present the videos, “Arranged” and “The Raft.” Both films are free and are intended for the mature audience. Doors on the lower level will open at 6:45. Then on Saturday, February 9th, families are invited to stop in at the library and make a Valentine’s Day card for that special someone. The Secret Seconds Thrift Stores of Missoula will host a 50% Off Sale on Friday and Saturday, February 8th and 9th. All proceeds from the stores benefit battered women and the children in YWCA programs. Secret Seconds has two locations, one at 920 Kensington and the other at 1136 W. Broadway. Drivers 50 and older are encouraged to tune up your driving skills and qualify for a discount on your automobile insurance with the 8-hour AARP Driver Safety Course at the Missoula Senior Center on Saturdays, February 9th and 16th from 9 am to 1 pm. The course costs $10 and is open to all who register by calling 543-7154.
The Mai Wah Museum and the Butte Silver Bow Arts Foundation invites all artists to enter your original work into a unique exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Butte. All mediums, sizes and styles are welcome, all ages may enter, and the only requirement is your artwork must be of a rat. “The year of the Rat Art Exhibition and Sale will run from February 9 – 23 and an opening reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, February 9th from 12 noon to 2 pm, prior to the Chinese New Year Parade. Everyone is cordially invited to attend “Mardi Pawz,” the Third Annual AniMeals Ball and Silent Auction which will be held at the Holiday Inn at the Park in Missoula on Saturday, February 9th from 7 pm to midnight. Costumes are optional, entertainment will be provided by County Line, and tickets are $35 per person, with 100% of your donation going directly to saving the lives of hungry and homeless animals. The 3rd Annual Hooked on Art Day, celebrating the legacy of local artist Walter Hook as well as those of other talented area artists, will be held this Saturday, February 9th from 10 am to 4 pm at the Bonner School. Monte Dolack will join the free festivities with a Gallery Talk in the Library from 1:30 – 2:30. Throughout the school, the Community Art Market will feature art pieces by local and area artists. The Great Falls Cross-Country Ski Club invites skiers of all ages and abilities to the 32nd annual, “Klister Klassic” Ski Race and Poker Run on Skis. There will be 9- and 18- km races, a 2-km race for kids and a Poker Run for those not interested in a timed event. The races begin at 11:00 am on the Silver Crest Cross Country Trails, 62 miles southeast of Great Falls near Neihart. Hot lunch will be available and awards will follow the races. The registration fee is $10 for adults and $7 for children under 14. Call 727-3675 for more information.
A giant rummage sale is currently being organized in the Missoula area to raise money for the Montana Human Rights Network Legal Defense Fund. Rummage of all shapes and sizes will be accepted by February 20th and you can call Beth at 728-4711 to arrange a pick up or drop off. Donation receipts for tax purposes are available.
