Today's Highlight: Planned Parenthood of Montana is holding a workshop in Great Falls for families designed to teach them about the emotional, physical and social aspects girls face while growing up. This is for girls grades 4 through 6. Parent/daughter teams will explore the many aspects of growing up, while learning how to communicate openly and productively about sensitive topics. Pre-registration is required by calling 454-3432 by February 1st. Cost is $30.

The Montana Natural History Center in Missoula is holding an evening lecture tomorrow at 7 pm on Bats, including the biology of bats, myths and fun facts. Saturday is kids activity day at 2 pm with fun activities for kids age 5 and older. And February 2nd, Pam Hagan, a Glacier National Park Ranger, will give a talk about how birds use their brains to solve problems. This is a fun program for the entire family. Flathead Valley Community college in Kalispell is holding a talk about the Geography of Ireland tonight and on the 5th, New Zealand native Willie Brown will talk about the country and the Maori (may-or-i). both lectures will begin at 7 pm in Blake Hall. These talks are free and open to the public. Call 756-3945.

The Missoula Public Library will hold two lectures as part of its Alexander Hamilton series. Dr Michael Allen of the University of Washington will share his expertise on the life of Hamilton and his lasting effect on the western world. This will be held At 7:30 pm in the UM Underground Lecture Hall North. And the economic vision of Hamilton will be the topic on February 5th at the library at 7 pm with Dr. Michael Kupilik (Cup – il – lick) from the Department of Ecomonics. These lectures are free and open to the public Call 721-2665 for more information.

There will be a Target Range Homeowner’s meeting in Missoula tomorrow at 7 pm. The main topic will be on sewer and water district boundaries. All interested residents of Target Range and Orchard Homes are welcome to attend. The meeting will be held at the Target Range School.

Tomorrow join the Flathead Reservation Food and Fitness Community Conversation starting at 4 pm at the Salish Kootenai College Health and Athletic Center. Enjoy a food and fitness resource fair with local foods served, current projects on display and opportunities for networking. At 6 there will be a roundtable discussion about these issues including what children are eating, exercise, and access to nutritious foods.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof will be performed by the Montana Repertory Theatre at the University of Montana in Missoula starting tonight at 7:30 pm and running until February 9th. For ticket information call 243-4581. This performance will also be held in the Plains High School Gym on February 11th, sponsored by the Sanders County Council for the Arts. Call 826 3600 for ticket information. And on Sunday, February 3rd, the arts council will sponsor a performance by Musician and story Teller Bill Ross-it-er at Quinn’s Hot Springs starting at 7:30 pm. There is a call for nominees for the Robert T. Pantzer Award. This is granted annually to a person from the University of Montana or the State of Montana, who has contributed substantially to making the University a more open and humane learning environment. Nominations are due by February 1st and will be presented at the Charter Day ceremonies on the 19th. For more details call 243-4689.

Families first in Missoula will hold the following workshops: On February 5th, “Divorced and Shared Parenting Part 1: What’s Best for the Kids” will be held from 6 to 9 pm. cost is $35 and daycare is provided.

Also on the 5th, Healthy Families First Fun Night will be held at Target Range Elementary school from 6:30 to 8 pm with an opportunity for families to play together, and make nutritious snacks.

Pizza for Parents will be held on the 6th at 11 am at Russell Elementary’s Family Resource Center for parents to learn how to set limits for their children. Another Pizza for Parents will be held on the 8th with the topic Positive Discipline for Primary Grades to be held at Lewis and Clark’s Family Resource Center at 11 a.m.

And on the 6th, Relatives as Parents will be held at Pablo Headstart from 7 to 9 pm for relatives who step in when children need to be raised in a safer, healthier environment.

These sessions are free, and open to the public with childcare available. Pre-registration is required by calling 721-7690 or in Pablo 676-4509.

ICAN of Helena is sponsoring a showing of the documentary film “The Business of Being Born” on February 1st at 7 pm in the Helena High School Little Theater. This documentary is on childbirth in America by filmmaker Abby Epstein and producer Ricki Lake. This is open to the public and cost is $10 and pregnant women are free. 410-0350.

A sports performance enhancement and injury prevention camp will be held at the university of Montana’s physical therapy clinic and new directions wellness center on February 4th through March 12th. This is for middle school aged Boys and Girls held Monday and Wednesday evenings. Cost is $60 for 6 weeks. To register call 243-4006.
