Today's Highlight: Alpine Artisans and 2 Valleys Stage will present Montana Rose, Music Americana, on Sunday, January 28th at 3 pm in the Seeley Swan High School. For ticket information visit website alpine artisans dot org.
A film festival showing documentary style films about the artistry of fly fishing will be held at the University of Great Falls Theater on January 25th starting at 7 pm. This is sponsored by the Missouri River Fly Fishers and cost is $8 in advance, $6 for student or $10 at the door. 453-1613 for questions.
The 33rd annual Montana Economic Outlook Seminar, will be held with the theme “The New ICE Age: Investing in a Competitive, Educated Workforce” sponsored by the University of Montana’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research, will be held in 9 Montana Cities starting January 25h in Missoula at the Hilton Garden Inn. Followed by Helena on the 29th at the Best Western Great Northern Hotel. On January 30th it will be held in Great Falls, Billings on February 5th, Bozeman the 6th, Butte the 7th, Kalispell on the 12th, Lewistown on March 11th and Havre on the 12th. Legacy Montana will hold its first organizational meeting for their 2009 campaign on January 24th at 8 am at Missoula Aging Services. Representatives from nonprofit organizations interested in participating are urged to attend. The multi-media campaign encourages support for charitable organizations by asking individuals to remember the organizations in their wills. For additional information call 543-5387.
Sustainable Living Systems will hold a Public show of the video “Five Planets: Montanans at the Crossroads of Global Warming. This video will look at many different perspectives of gobal warming including transportation, construction, agriculture, forestry, government and more. A discussion will follow this one hour film. This will be held on January 31st at 7 pm in the Hamilton library meeting room. 642-3601
The Missoula Job Service Employers Council will hold a workshop on Record Keeping and Reporting in Montana tomorrow, the 23rd from 1 to 4 pm at the Doubletree Hotel. Cost is $40 and registration begins at 12:30. Call 542-5751
Families First Parenting Programs will offer “Relatives as Parents” tomorrow at 6:15 pm and will help answer questions, find resources and support for relatives who step in to help raise children. This class is free, and open to the public and will be held at the YMCA.
An anger management class will be held on the 24th at Families First from noon to 2 pm. Cost is $25 with childcare available and helps adults keep their cool when dealing with children. Pre-registration is required. Call families first at 721-7690.
The doors on US based horse slaughter plants have been closed, but now horses are being sent to slaughter houses in Mexico and Canada. Today is National “Call-In Day” for Horses. The Missoula Field Office of Senator Jon Tester has scheduled an outreach office time in Deer Lodge. Missoula Field Director, Tracy Stone-Manning will be available to share concerns, information and ideas. No appointment is necessary. This will be held from 2 to 3 pm in the Powell County Courthouse conference room located at 409 Missouri Avenue. An Out Reach Meeting is also going to be held today in Seeley Lake at 2 pm at First Valley Bank conference room with field representative and State Grants Coordinator, Deborah Frandsen. The Montana Museum of Art and Culture at the University of Montana will hold a Gallery Talk by Manuela Well Off Man with a presentation on Nature in Native American Art from the 19th Century to the Present. This will be held in the Meloy and Paxon Galleries in the UM PARTV Center at 7 pm. Free and open to the public. 243-2019.
The Carousel for Missoula will be closed until January 25th for their annual Pony Painting and will resume on Saturday, the 26th at 11 a.m.
Families seeing preschool and Private K through 8 education are invited to attend Independent School Night at the Double Tree Hotel on tomorrow from 5 to 8 pm. Several Missoula schools and montessori’s will be available to answer your questions. 549-8327
The Montana Red Cross will be holding Blood drives in Kalispell at the Job Service today until 2 pm and in Bigfork at the high school tomorrow from 9:30 to 1:30 pm. In Hamilton at the hospital on Thursday from 12:30 to 5:30 and at the Troy High School from 11 to 4 pm On Friday in Missoula at the red cross and in Kalispell at the Home Depot from 10 to 1. On Monday the 28th in Missoula at the University in the UC from 11 to 5 and in Kalispell at the Red Cross. 543-6695
