Today's Highlight:
Tonight is the monthly meeting of parents, families, and friends of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders at 7 pm in Great Falls. Call 868-1064 for location.
On January 11th, there will be an exhibition opening at The Missoula Art Museum from 5 to 8 pm with art, wine and music. And then on the 17th an artini auction will be held starting at 5:30 with dinner and music. Cost is $20 or $10 for members. And Saturday, the 12th a Family Art Workshop will be held where participants can create dazzling dream boots using oil pastels with watercolor washes from 10:30 until noon. A carousel for Missoula will be closed from January 14th through the 25th for its annual pony painting. Dragon Hollow will still be open during this time.
Missoula’s sustainable Business Council will continue it’s lecture series on Thursday, the 17th at MCAT located at 500 North Higgins with a discussion on taking care of those in need and the homeless in Missoula. This is free and open to the public 370-2974
The Missoula Senior Center will hold a potluck on Wed. the 16th at 5:30 pm. Bring your own dish, or a cash donation. And on the 26th , enjoy their “Winter Wonderland” ball from 8 to 11 pm. Cost is $5 per person.and all ages are welcome to attend. 543-7154.
The Montana Discovery Foundation is hosting a Moonlight Hike on the 19th at the MacDonald Pass Recreation Area located 17 miles west of Helena on Highway 12. The hike will be from 7 to 9 pm. With snow shoes available for the entire family. Reservations are required due to limited equipment, by calling 495-3711. All skill levels are welcome and this free and open to the public.
There will be another Snowshoe Trip on Flesher pass located 40 miles northwest of Helena on highway 279 on the 21st from 10 am until 2 pm. this is a moderate trip and reservations are required.
The Carroll College Art Gallery will present “Students Speaking Volumes: Transforming Hate with works by art students based on white supremacist hate propaganda. Works will be on display from January 25th through April 1st . The Gallery is open weekdays from 9 to 9 and is located in Saint Charles Hall at 1601 North Benton in Helena.
The Swan Ecosystem Center will host “A saga of survival and splendor in Alaska” on the 17th from 7 to 8 pm at the Condon Work Center located on highway 83 near mile marker 43. Marty Za-Janc’s life long captivation with wildlands has led him on a 10 year exploration of Alaska, and the public will have an opportunity to view the sites and hear of his adventures. 754-3137.
The Montana Natural History Center will hold a Winter Wildlife Tracking Workshop on Saturday, Jan 19th from 9 until 4 pm. Elliot Parsons will show how to identify and interpret animal tracks, sign and more. Cost is $15 for nonmembers and $10 for members and children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is due by the 18th. 327-0404. The center is also offering a Montana Naturalist Class starting January 21st, a community Watershed education Class starting on the 23rd
A Tibetan New Year’s Dinner will be held on the 26th sponsored by the Tibetan Childrens Education Foundation. Cost is $20 and children under 12 are free. The dinner will be held at the United Cove-nant Methodist Church in Helena. Call 439-3580
The American Red Cross will be holding blood drives in the following communities this week: Today in Missoula and Kalispell, tomorrow in Missoula, Victor and Kalispell. On Thursday, in Missoula, Hamilton and Whitefish, Friday in Missoula and Kalispell. Saturday in Kalispell, and Monday in Darby, Missoula and Kalispell. For times and locations call 543-6695.
