Today's Highlight: The American Red Cross will be in the following communities this week:
Today in Hamilton at the Grace Lutheran Church from 12:30 to 5:30; in Missoula at Roseburg Forest Products from 10 to 1 and in Kalispell at the Regional Medical Center from noon to 4. Tomorrow they will be in Missoula at the Community Medical Center from 9 to noon and Deer Lodge at the Community Center from 1 to 6 pm and in Swan Lake at the Cahtolic church from 2 to 6. On Thursday in Missoula at the Safeway on Reserve from 10 to 1 and in Rexford at the Community Church from 11 to 4. On Friday At the Missoula Housing Authority from noon to 3; and Kalispell at NWMT Human Resources. And in Missoula at the Red Cross on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday. 543-6695.
Intermountain Children’s Home in Kalispell invites the public to their “Calling all Angels” holiday Gala Friend Raiser on December 14th at the New Hilton Garden Inn. Enjoy live entertainment, refreshments, and live auction. Tickets are $75 and proceeds benefit children in the Flathead Valley. For tickets call 888-261-6014.
The Hellgate Writing Center in Missoula is offering gifts of reading with 6 unique book baskets created and donated by volunteer Writing Coaches. The Baskets are on display at Fact and Fiction and are available by silent auction through December 22nd. Proceeds help the Center. 258-6462.
The Montana Fiber Arts in Helena is offering free lesson to the public on Tuesdays from noon to 4 pm and Fridays from 4:30 to 5:30 pm until December 28th. They are located at 433 North Last Chance Gulch. Cost for materials is $7. 443-8016
The Ambassador of Syria to the United States will give a presentation entitled “US, Syria and the new Old Middle East” tonight in the UC Ballroom at the University of Montana in Missoula. This is free and open to the public and will be followed by a question and answer session. 728-3328
The Missoula Public Library will hold their regular monthly book discussion group on December 11th at 7 pm and 13th at 10 am to discuss “Persepolis”, a memoir of coming of age in Tehran during the Islamic Revolution. This event is free and open to the public. 721-2665.
The VFW Veterans Children’s Christmas Party will be held on December 15th at 6 pm in Polson. This benefit concert will feature 4 bands and the cover charge is an unwrapped Christmas present for children ages up to 9 years of age or cash. Presents will be distributed on December 22nd by Santa. 883-2821.
The Bitterroot Cross Country Ski Club will hold it’s monthly meeting on Thursday, December 13th at 6 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. It will be a potluck, please bring your own plates and utensils. The program will feature Norman Smyers, from the Glacial Lake Missoula Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute and will speak about Glacial Lake Missoula. Please bring a non-perishable food item for the Haven House as well.
The Montana Discovery Foundation will hold a snowshoe moonlight hike on December 21st from 7 to 9 pm. Learn about the historic Moose Creek Cabin, located 15 miles west of Helena, with tours and snacks available before and after the hike. Snowshoes are available in all family sizes and this event is free and open to the public. Reservations are required by calling 495-3718.
The YWCA of Great Falls is hosting an Advent Luncheon on December 14th at noon. Take a break from the holiday rush and enjoy holiday music, a catered lunch, and an inspirational presentation by Bishop Jessica Crist. Tickets are $8 for members and $10 for non members. 452-1315 to reserve your seat.
The Miss Montana United States pageant State Director is looking for exceptional young women that wish to represent the state by promoting issues close to them; work with charities and be an excellent role model for everyone in Montana.
