LISTEN TO THE PROGRAM

Maldonado grew up on a sheep ranch in a remote area of northern Montana and attended a one-room school through eighth grade. She was a professor at Western New Mexico University for forty years, where she is now a dean and professor emeritus. In 1998, Maldonado was inducted into the New Mexico Women’s Hall of fame.
Her first book of poetry, From the Marias River to the North Pole, was published in 2006, followed in 2007 by a second book, titled Montana, Too. Her poems have appeared in various university presses and the anthology, Montana Women Writers: a Geography of the Heart, which recently won the Willa award for Creative Non-Fiction.
