Today's Highlight: Winter is here and what better way to get away from the cold than by reading a great book? The D’arcy McNickle Library invites the public to their annual book sale TODAY and tomorrow, November 28th and 29th from 9 am – 4 pm at the Cay Cultural Building at the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. Book prices range from 10 cents to 5 dollars, but special collections are available as well, with the price depending upon the collection. Tonight at 7:00 pm, J. Scott Patnode, the Director/Curator of the Jundt Art Museum at Gonzaga University will discuss the exhibition, “Sacks Appeal,” an exhibition of artist-designed shopping bags on view in the Montana Museum of Art & Culture’s Meloy Gallery on The University of Montana campus in Missoula. The exhibit features shopping bags designed by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and others. Call the Meloy Gallery at 243-2019 if you have any questions.
The University of Montana Department of Drama/Dance is presenting the stylish satire, Tartuffe, in the Montana Theatre of the PARTV Center on the Missoula campus. This is a classic work by Moliere and has remained a hallmark of comedy for almost 350 years. The play will be presented November 27th – December 1st and December 4th – 8th at 7:30 pm. A Western Swing Dance will be held this Friday evening from 9 pm to 1 am in The University of Montana’s UC Ball Room in Missoula. The dance features live music by Shane Clouse and Stomping Ground. The ticket price of $3.00 includes swing dance lessons from 7 – 9 pm. Tickets are available in advance at “The Source” in the University Center or at the door.
The Great Falls Spinners & Weavers Guild will hold a “Spin-In” this Saturday, December 1st from 10 am to 4 pm at the Great Falls International Airport, 2800 Terminal Drive. Free demonstrations are featured and information on all aspects of spinning will be provided. Call Denise at 868-1930 for more information.
The public is invited to attend the Mountain Home Montana’s annual “Festival of Trees Teddy Bear Tea” this Saturday, December 1st from 10 am to 12 noon at the Southgate Mall in Missoula. Snacks and crafts are provided and a story will be read by Mrs. Claus, herself! Tickets are $10 for a parent and child combination and $5 for each additional child. Call 541-4663 for further details.
The Children’s Museum of Missoula, located at 225 West Front Street, is offering an early literacy program for children ages 3 – 7. The “Ready, Set…Read” program includes an interactive story time, art projects, and educational games. This program happens every Wednesday and Saturday at 11:00 am. Also at the Children’s Museum, the Toddler Playgroup will meet Tuesdays, December 4th and 18th at 11:00 am and will provide activities such as story times, songs, and games, with plenty of time for toddlers to play together. The City Commission of Great Falls invites the public for ideas and comments on community needs that could be addressed with funding from the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Investment Partnership Programs. A meeting will be held next Tuesday, December 4th at 7:00 pm on the 2nd floor of the Civic Center Building where the public is strongly encouraged to offer comments and ideas. The Five Valley Transit Study will host a public meeting next Wednesday, December 5th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the Grant Creek Inn in Missoula. People who may need new bus service or who may need enhanced vanpool service are strongly encouraged to attend this meeting as public input is important to the process. The American Association for State and Local History invites nominations for the 2008 Leadership in History Awards. The Awards Program is a national recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of local, state, and regional history. Nominations are due to the Montana State Award Chair, Dr. Robert M. Brown at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula by March 1st. Dr. Brown can be reached at 728-3476, if you’d like more information.
In honor of a friend or loved one, Partners Hospice in Missoula invites the public to set the “Tree of Life” aglow. The white lights on the tree, located at the Memorial Rose Garden on Brooks Street and Mount Avenue, will be illuminated next Wednesday, December 5th at 6:30 pm.
