Today's Highlight: The Earth and Sky Studio and the Hot Springs Artist Society will feature the works of abstract impressionistic artist, James Arnold with a reception on Saturday, December 1st from 6 to 9 pm at the Camas Recreation Center in Hot Springs. 741-5117.
Partnership Health Center and the Gay Men’s Task Force are offering free, anonymous HIV testing in honor of World Aids Day on December 1st from 11 to 2 pm at Partnership Health Center located at 323 West Alder in Missoula. No appointment is necessary for this 20 minute, oral test. Call 258-4165 for questions.
Charlo Close Up is sponsoring a Sirloin tip roast dinner on Sunday, December 2nd with a silent auction, door prizes and 50/50 tickets from 5 to 7 pm at the Charlo Senior Center. Proceeds help benefit 8 Jr and Sr students to attend a week-long trip to Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York City in March.
Amnesty International and the National Religious Campaign Against Torture will show the award winning documentary film “Ghosts of Abu Ghraib” December 3rd at 7 pm in O’Connell Hall room 107 at Carroll College in Helena. The film will be followed by a discussion. Call 447-4351
The Clay Studio of Missoula will begin an 8 week Beginning Pottery class starting tomorrow, the 28th to be held on Wednesdays at 6 pm. to register call 543-0509. Tonight will be the 1st, of a 4-week session, for Instructed Open Studio from 6 to 9 pm. And, the studios annual Holiday Sale will begin December 7th from 5:30 to 9 pm with the doors open from 10 am until 5 daily until December 23rd.
Operation Santa Paws is currently taking donations for toys, treats and donations to help abused and abandoned animals at the Humane Society Shelter. Donations will be accepted at the shelter or at Hunter’s Glen Assisted Living, located at 3620 American Way in Missoula. 542-7009 ext 1011.
The Hamilton Carriage House and Trapper Creek Winery will host a Craft Sale and Wine Tasting featuring several Farmers Market artists on December 2nd from 11 to 4 pm. Soup, pastries and warm drinks will also be served. This event is free and open to the public and they are located at 310 North 4th Street in Hamilton.
Also in Hamilton, SAFE is sponsoring their Annual Christmas Giving Tree for their Outreach, Shelter, and Transitional Housing residents. Each family has ornaments on the tree asking for Christmas presents they cannot afford to provide for their families. If you are interested in helping out, the tree is located at 410 North 1st Street, in the Sportsman Complex weekdays from 9 to 5 and Saturdays 10 to 4 or call 363-2793.
The University of Montana’s Gallery of Visual Arts; Department of Art and the Artists Collection, will host the 13th Annual Juried Student Art Show on Thursday, Nov. 29th with an opening reception from 5 to 7 pm, and awards presentation at 6 in the Gallery of Visual Arts, UM Social Sciences Building 1st floor.
The American Red Cross will be holding blood drives in Plains at the VWF Hall from noon to 5 pm, in Missoula at Prudential Montana Real Estate located at 1006 West Sussex from 9 to 1 and in Polson at the community meeting room from noon to 5pm today. Tomorrow they will be at the Western State Insurance building located at 2925 Palmer Street in Missoula from 10 to 1 pm and in Troy at the Methodist Church from noon to 5 pm.
On Thursday, they will be in Stevensville at the high school; Missoula at Alpha Phi; and Libby at the high school. And on Friday in Missoula at Elrod and Duniway Halls at the UM and in Kalispell at the Red Cross center. They will also be in Missoula on Saturday at Montana Harley Davidson on East Harrier.
Families First Parenting Programs will hold the following classes this week. Tonight from 6 to 9 pm “Divorce and Shared Parenting Part One” will be held at St. Patrick Hospital Conference room A and B. and will continue on December 1st. Call 721-7690 to pre-register.
Tomorrow, “Relatives as Parents Program” will be held at the YMCA starting at 6:16 pm. This program helps families find answers to difficult questions, gain access to resources and receive support through a community of families in similar situations.
The University of Montana’s Department of Music will present the UM Percussion Ensemble at 7:30 pm tonight in the University Theatre. Admission is $6, or $4 for students and seniors. 243-6880
