Today's Highlight: The Flathead Chapter of the Montana Native Plant Society invites everyone to join them for a slide show this evening at 7:00 pm in the Meeting Room at the Kalispell County Library, 247 1st Avenue East. This free presentation will be given by Dr. Jeanette Oliver, professor at Flathead Valley Community College, who will also discuss lichen identification as well as
their uses for food, decorations, and dyes. Please call Jen at 863-9630 if you have any questions.


“Africana,” a live entertainment and movie premier for the Montana State University chapter of Engineers Without Borders, will be held at 7:30 pm TONIGHT at the Emerson Cultural Center in Bozeman. “Africana” will feature a reception in the Emerson foyer, followed by the documentary premier of “The Water Carriers,” and then close with a dance and drum performance by MSU students. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and are available at The Country Bookshelf and Refuge Sustainable Building Center. Proceeds will benefit the Engineers Without Borders chapter at MSU and its continuing work to bring clean drinking water to rural Kenya. For more information, call 994-7156.

Tomorrow night, November 8th at 7:00 pm, the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula invites the public to “An Evening at Ft. Missoula,” a presentation regarding the study of Japanese Internment camp and the Homefront of World War II to be given by Cheryl Hughes and Mike Wellert. Come and celebrate the music, time, and history of World War II and explore internment in Missoula. For more information, call Cheryl at 728-2400 X- 7651.

On Thursday, November 8th, the Missoula Senior Citizens’ Center will be offering an All-You-Can-Eat Pancake meal from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the Center, 705 South Higgins in Missoula. The menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and fruit, along with coffee, tea, and milk. The cost is $5.00. Volunteers are also needed at the Center to help staff programs, such as the Thrift Shop, the kitchen, Quiltmakers, and several clerical positions. Call the Center at 543-7154 with any questions.

Dr. Jedediah Brodie will be discussing the Carnivores, Rotting-Flesh Mimics, and other crazy plants of Southeast Asia in a lecture presentation for the Clark Fork Chapter of the Montana Native Plant Society of Missoula. Dr. Brodie will be speaking tomorrow night, Thursday, November 8th at 7:30 pm in lower room 14 of the Gallagher Business Building on the University of Montana campus in Missoula.

The ladies of the Auxiliary and the Legionnaires of Alberton invite all veterans and their spouses to join them in commemorating Veteran’s Day on Sunday, November 11th. The post will be hosting a no-charge brunch from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the River’s Edge Steak House in Alberton. During this event, a drawing for a 150 year-old gold piece worth approximately $1,000.00 will take place. The proceeds from this raffle will be used to enhance the post’s building fund. The regular monthly meeting of the Bonner Milltown Community Council will take place next Monday, November 12th at 7:00 pm in the Bonner School Library, Highway 200 in Bonner. Agenda items for this month’s meeting include developer Scott Cooney who will discuss his efforts to preserve Bonner the housing and City Recreation Specialist, Dave Shaw, will describe current projects to expand the Kim Williams Trail via connections on the east. The Flathead Audubon Society in Kalispell invites the public to their meeting on Monday, November 12th at 7:00 pm in the Community Room of The Summit, 205 Sunnyview Lane. Dave Hadden of Headwaters Montana will discuss “Values of the Transboundary Flathead River and the Threats from British Columbia Policies that are Encouraging Energy Exploration of the Flathead.” Call 837-0181 for further details.

Numerous Blood Drives sponsored by the American Red Cross will be taking place throughout western Montana during the upcoming week. On Thursday, the Red Cross will be in Superior and Columbia Falls; on Friday, November 9th and Monday, November 12th, they will be in Kalispell and Missoula; and on Tuesday, November 13th, the Red Cross will be in Hamilton, Kalispell, and Missoula. For specific site information as well as the time each drive will take place, call Judi at 543-6695.
