Today's Highlight: A Halloween Party for children of ALL ages will take place TONIGHT from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the St Mary’s Family Center in Stevensville. Highlighting the evening will be games with prizes and refreshments for all. The price for admission is a bag of unopened candy and all children will leave the party with a bag of Halloween goodies. The public is invited to experience an ecological and cultural adventure through Tanzania via photographs and stories told by The University of Montana graduate students in the Division of Biological Sciences and Wildlife Biology. This is part of the DBS/Wildlife Seminar series and will include outstanding photos of African animals and landscapes. This free travelogue begins at 4:00 pm TONIGHT in the North Urey Underground Lecture Hall on the University of Montana campus. Call 243-4433 for additional information.

It’s not too late to consider a no-calorie, cavity-free alternative to giving out candy this year for Halloween which are Trick-or-Treat coupons from the Carousel. Coupons are 25 cents and are good today through the end of this year, December 31st. In addition, A Carousel for Missoula will give one free ride to each rider who comes in costume TODAY from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm. If you have any questions, call the Carousel at 549-8382.

Tomorrow evening at 7:30 pm, Montana novelist Neil McMahon will give the first of two keynote lectures for the Carroll College Literary Festival in the Carroll Campus Center in Helena. McMahon will discuss and read from his critically acclaimed new novel, Lone Creek, which is set in Helena. The talk is free and open to the public and a reception will follow. Hospice of Missoula encourages everyone to reward themselves and others by becoming a Hospice volunteer. Two, free training sessions are scheduled for November 3rd and 10th from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at the Center: 800 Kensington, Suite 204 in Missoula. On Saturday, November 3rd at 7:00 pm in the Hamilton City Hall, 223South 2nd Street in Hamilton, two speakers will be giving ˝ hour PowerPoint presentations for the National Day of Climate Action. Dr. Faith Ann Heinsch, a University of Montana Research Scientist and colleague of recent Nobel laureate Dr. Steve Running, will discuss the ecosystem changes that results from global warming and the directions we’re facing in the future. Ben Brouwer will follow with an overview of the practical vision that AERO’S blueprint encapsulates for Montana’s energy generation and uses. Following the presentations, local food will be offered, local music will be provided, and local beer and wine will be available for purchase. The Normanden Lodge of the Sons of Norway will be hosting a Scandinavian Pancake breakfast this Sunday, November 4th from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. The Metlen Bar in Dillon is hosting a Texas Hold’em Fundraiser this Sunday afternoon, November 4th to benefit the Barrett Hospital Foundation. For a $100 buy-in, there will be cash prizes of $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. Licensed dealers are also needed. The National Crooked Road tour will be performing in Butte at 4:00 pm this Sunday, November 4th at the Mother Lode Theatre, 316 West Park Street. The program promises authentic old-time, bluegrass, mountain gospel, ballad singing and flatfoot dance traditions that are still alive in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
