Today's Highlight: Today, from 10 am to 4 pm on the first floor of the University of Montana’s University Center, the Department of Drama/Dance will be holding its
one-day-only Costume Closeout Sale – just in time for Halloween! Items such as bowling shirts, prom dresses, wedding gowns, suits, uniforms, vintage dresses – all will be available at a steal, with items priced as low as 25 cents. Wild Mercy, the environmental/ nature-themed community reading series sponsored by the University of Montana and the Missoulian Angler, continues TONIGHT at 7:00 pm at the Missoulian Angler, 401 S. Join the Women’s Resource Center in Dillon tomorrow night, Thursday, October 11th to honor women and children murdered in the state of Montana during their “Take Back the Night” activities. The evening will include survivor testimonials, a candlelight vigil, and music presentations. The evening begins at 5:00 pm at the Depot, 15 South Montana Street. The Missoula Aging Services encourages those who may be concerned and confused about all the different fraud scams which are affecting Montanans to attend a Consumer Fraud Summit to learn the facts. AARP is presenting this free event tomorrow, October 11th from 9 am to 3 pm at Ruby’s Inn and Conference Center, 4825 N. Reserve in Missoula. A few of the topics to be covered are telemarketing fraud, health care fraud, investment fraud and more. A Preschool Screening Clinic for children ages 0 through 4 in the Arlee School District will be held at the Arlee Head Start on Thursday, October 11th, beginning at 9:00 am. This free screening will include gross motor, fine motor, language concepts, communication concepts, communication skills, and hearing and vision screening. The Parenting Place of Missoula, located at 1644 South 8th Street West, is hosting free child care, on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30 pm during the month of October. Qualified children’s program assistants will care for your children in a safe and nurturing environment and will provide creative and fun activities and dinner while you take time to nurture yourself. The Missoula Art Museum is offering its Second Saturday Family Art Event this Saturday morning, October 13th from 10:30 – 12:00 noon. This Saturday’s activity will be bread dough Halloween and Day of the Dead ornaments. Participants will make skulls, black cats and autumn leaves at the museum, located at 335 North Pattee in Missoula. On October 13th and 14th, the 25th Season of the Glacier Symphony and Chorale opens with the passion of the Brahms Concerto No. 1 illuminated and electrified by the artistry of pianist Grace Nikae. The symphony will also perform Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 in C Major. The concerts will be held at the Glacier High School at 7:30 pm on Saturday and at 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon. As part of “Domestic Violence Awareness Month,” the YWCA of Missoula invites the community to commemorate a “Week Without Violence” by attending the “Day of Remembrance” event from 10 am to 6 pm on Sunday, October 14th at Southgate Mall. Dr. Steve Running, world-renowned expert on global warming and professor of ecology at The University of Montana, will be the featured speaker at the Bitterroot Audubon’s monthly meeting this Monday, October 15th beginning at 7:00 pm in the Chantilly Theater, 319 Main Street in Stevensville. Entitled, “The Changing Climate of Montana: Will We Have More Fire than Water?” Dr. Running’s speech will describe the complex ways in which Montana’s climate is changing and will also explore the consequences of a warmer and probably drier future climate to Montana’s ecosystems.
