Jazz Archives for October 07, 2007 3:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Today's Highlight: "The Saxophone in Jazz: A tribute to Adolphus Sax" In the 1840s, a Belgian inventor named Adolphus Sax began creating a family of musical instruments which combined the element of woodwind (reed instrument) with a brass body, and thus was born the saxophone. In the early 20th century, musicians in American-entertainment embraced this instrument, and the rest is jazz-history.
On this week's "JAZZ ARCHIVES", we pay tribute to Adolphus Sax with an encore program from the humble beginnings of our series, including the soprano-, alto, tenor- and baritone-saxophones.
