The Environmental Studies Program at The University of Montana and the Missoulian Angler invite everyone to attend an environmental/nature-themed community reading. Featured authors are two EVST graduate students, Erika Fredrickson and Mike Fiebig, who will be reading TONIGHT at 7 p.m. at the Missoulian Angler, 401 S. Orange. An informational orientation for new Literacy Volunteers of America tutors in Butte will be held TONIGHT from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Butte-Silver Bow Public Library, 226 West Broadway. For further information, call the LVA Butte Literacy Program at 723-7905.

The Montana Writer’s Guild invites the public to share an evening of readings by local authors beginning at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, September 20th at Fact and Fiction Bookstore in downtown Missoula. Questions will be answered by calling 721-2881.

A Health Fair for Senior Citizens will be held tomorrow, Thursday, September 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Missoula Senior Center, 705 South Higgins. Services at this Health Fair include blood pressure or blood glucose screenings, strength testing, and bone density screenings. Also, information will be available on retirement living, assisted living, physical therapy, pharmacy, home health, and much more. The health fair is free to the public. “Just Don’t Go, Montana” is sponsoring the first military counter-recruitment, Town Meeting tomorrow night, September 20th at 7:00 pm at the Helena Neighborhood Center, 200 South Cruse Ave. The discussion will follow the theme of militarization of our public high schools and is free and open to the public. The Missoula Art Museum, located at 335 North Pattee in downtown Missoula, is celebrating its First Anniversary in a number of special ways, and the public is cordially invited to attend! On Thursday, September 20th, a free exhibition tour will be begin at 12:30 in the afternoon, and then Artini Thursday will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 o’clock that evening. On Friday, The Best of the 33rd Northwest Film and Video Festival will be held at 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 o’clock. The 5th Annual Laurel Oktoberfest will take place in Laurel, Montana, this weekend: September 21st through the 23rd. This is a major fundraiser for Making a Difference, a nonprofit organization helping children and their families. Events include polka music, folk dancing, a special children’s area with games, and a variety of food vendors, some of which will be featuring German dishes. Previous Hospice Families or anyone wanting to memorialize a loss is invited to attend a Memorial Service to be conducted by Hospice of Missoula. Every 90 minutes in the United States someone is diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and there is a way you can help. This Saturday at McCormick Park in Missoula a fundraising walk will be held and will last approximately 90 minutes. The check-in time is 9:00 am, and the walk will commence at 10:00 o’clock. Every step will support the ALS Association and help provide care and hope to people with ALS. To register, or to find out how you can get involved, visit the Web site: www.ALSA.org.

The Glacier Lifelong Learning Center in Kalispell will be offering “Sweet Peas,” a Waldorf Parent-Child Class for parents and their children, ages 0 to 3 ½ years old. The class will provide a mini-experience of what a Waldorf kindergarten class is like. Sweet Peas will begin on Monday, September 24th and classes are held every Monday from 10:30 to noon, with 8-week sessions.
