Today's Highlight: "Deep Roots: Recognizing the Value of Culture with William Poy Lee"
William Poy Lee's family comes from a small village in China where they lived for a thousand years before immigrating to San Francisco. Poy Lee was born in San Francisco and grew up in its Chinatown. Were it not for his mother, he may have become lost between cultures and places. Poy Lee describes how he found his identity in his ancestral past and how his discovery of a culture's values and traditions offer wisdom and insight to his adopted country at the present time. He recognizes and honors his mother in guiding him in this discovery.
Since 1973, New Dimensions has been exploring the landscape of possibilities of a more just, sustainable and compassionate world by having deep dialogues with individuals who are actively making a creative contribution in the world.
New Dimensions has interviewed hundreds of the greatest minds on the planet such as the late mythologist Joseph Campbell, poet Maya Angelou and physicist David Bohm. It has featured Pulitzer prize winners E.O. Wilson from Harvard and poet/ecologist Gary Snyder.
Primarily the medium used to communicate these ideas is radio. New Dimensions national series is heard, for the most part, on National Public Radio affiliates and other public stations. This flagship series airs weekly on over 350 stations around the U.S. and another 300 stations in Australia on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
