McNamer grew up in Conrad and Cut Bank, Montana, and graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in journalism. She worked as a daily journalist for a decade, then turned to fiction. After completing an MFA degree at UM, she published her first novel, Rima in the Weeds. She subsequently published One Sweet Quarrel and My Russian, which were both New York Times Notable Books of the Year.
McNamer now lives in Missoula and teaches creative writing at the University of Montana. Her latest novel is Red Rover, which has been chosen as a "Book Sense" pick by the American Booksellers Association. Red Rover is an intriguing blend of family history and fiction.

FYI
Two Dogs Press recently published a new collection of poetry by Mark Gibbons of Missoula, Montana, titled, Blue Horizon. To quote Razorcake magazine, "Opening up a Mark Gibbons book of poetry is like opening the door into a rowdy, wild pub. You never know if you'll get punched or kissed. Regardless, hang on to your glasses and get ready for a blast!"
If you’re interested in fiction, consider this year’s pick by One Book Montana: Last Crossing by Saskatchewan writer Guy Vanderhaeghe.

And here’s an observation from Mark Twain: “Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.”
