Come to the missoula public library small meeting room next tuesday at 7 p.m. to discuss “suite francaise” by irene nemirovsky, describing life under nazi occupation in france that remained undiscovered for 64 years. On tuesday, september 11, and thursday, september 13, david quammen’s “the reluctant mr. Darwin” will be discussed. Find out why darwin waited 21 years to publish his theories on natural selection. The 2007 montana irish festival will be held on park street between main and montana streets in historic uptown butte this friday through sunday. Admission is $15 tomorrow, $20 on saturday and $30 for a weekend pass. Entertainment will include dancers, fiddlers, pipe bands, play reading and more. There will be archival photo displays, author lectures and book fair, film festival, children’s activities, genealogy workshop, music and dance workshops, food and arts and crafts vendors and a sunday outdoor mass in the irish language. Sam’s spade garden tools and wares’ garden lecture series will continue this saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the o’hara house, 111 s. 4th street in hamilton. Author and gardening columnist molly hackett will speak about selection, presentation and how to keep your county fair entries looking fresh. This is free and open to the public. The bozeman bead show blue dragon beads llc will be held at the best western grantree inn, 1325 n. 7th avenue in bozeman, this saturday and sunday from 10-5. Admission is free.
The rei/backpacker magazine will sponsor the get out more tour at 1 p.m. this saturday at rei-missoula, 2230 n. Reserve street #300. This is a grassroots initiative by backpacker magazine to motivate, challenge and educate audiences across america on the benefits of getting outdoors. This is free and open to the public. Alberton american legion post 131 will celebrate its 20th anniversary as a post this saturday in the alberton community center at 1 p.m. with a gathering of its legionnaires and ladies of the auxiliary. The flathead audubon society will host a flathead valley field trip on migrant shorebirds this sunday at 9 a.m. meet in the former tidyman’s parking lot off 1st avenue e. And north of center street in kalispell. This is open to all. Call dan at 857-3143 for more information.
The alpine weavers and spinners guild nw montana fair’s fiber fest will be held from 10-4 sunday at the nw montana fairgrounds, corner of meridian and w. Idaho in kalispell. The three rivers waldorf initiative will host a free waldorf education informational meeting this sunday from 2-4 in the missoula public library. This is open to anyone interested in learning more about the subject or being a part of the three rivers waldorf initiative, a group of parents interested in a waldorf school for missoula and surrounding communities. The bonner milltown community council will hold their regular monthly meeting monday at 7 p.m. in the bonner school, hwy 200 in bonner. Featured will be a panel of agency specialists discussing the potential use of the restored milltown site as a public area under state management. This is open to the public. The common ground center, 260 roosevelt lane in hamilton, will host the hinterlands young adult retreat for ages 16-29 august 17-19 – friday dinner through sunday morning breakfast. This is for youth from the region searching for answers to: what are mystics? What is sufism? What are the dances of universal peace? How can my heart open when the world is in so much conflict? How can i increase my personal experience of peace and help others do the same? This is sponsored by the oneness project.
