Today's Highlight: Tuesday, August 7th Today through August 11th, Western Montanans can celebrate the Grand Opening of the Montana Museum of Work History and support Habitat for Humanity of Missoula. The Montana Museum of Work History is located inside Axmen, and dedicated to the working men and women of this state who accomplished amazing things with ambition, fortitude, self-reliance and perseverance. During the Grand Opening visitors can enjoy raffles, door prizes, and reduced pricing on merchandise, 100% of the proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity. Prairie Keepers is presenting “Knapweed-eating weevils” tonight at 7 pm, at the Montana Natural History Center in Missoula. Learn about the knapweed root-boring weevil. High School students from Darby will explain how they raise the insects, and give you some little critters to take home for your own knapweed. Call 327-0405 for more information.
The Final Session of YMCA Summer Swimming Lessons is here! The registration will be today for members and tomorrow for community participants. This last session runs for two-weeks from, August 13th through the 24th with lessons running Monday through Friday. There will be 10 lessons total. Financial assistance is available. Missoula aging services is providing a cool place at their facility for those who need to escape the extreme temperatures. Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4:30 pm. Seniors and persons with disabilities are welcome to relax and enjoy quiet activities in air-conditioned comfort at 337 Stephens Ave. Missoula aging services is wheelchair accessible and is served by Mountain Line Route 7. Today the American Red Cross Blood Drive will be at Macy’s in Missoula from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. They will also be at the Red Cross offices 401 W. Railroad from 11:00 to 3:00 pm by appointment. The Blood Drive will also be in Big Fork today from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at the LDS Church. For future times and locations, call 543-6695.
The Children’s Museum in Missoula has many exciting programs coming up: “Ready? Set…Read!” is an early literacy program for children ages 3 through 7. Activities include interactive story time, art projects, and educational games. This program is located at the Children’s Museum 225 W. Front St., and meets every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:30 am. This is a telephone Information and Referral service. Trained staff can analyze your unique problems and provide information or refer you to the social services designed to meet your needs. Call between the hours of 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 211/First Call for Help is a service of the Human Resource Council and United Way of Missoula County.
“Are you grieving the loss of a partner or grieving the loss of a parent as an adult child?” If so, during this evening presentation, participants may choose from two panel discussions. One will address issues of loss particular to those who have experienced the death of a partner, the other group of panelists will address issues adult children face as they cope with the death of a parent or parents. Located at Partners Hospice, in Missoula tonight from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. There is no fee, donations will be accepted.
