This American Life for May 01, 2007 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM [Program Website]
Today's Highlight: "Habeas Scmabeas -- Updated" The right of habeas corpus has been a part of this country's legal tradition longer than we've actually been a country. But the war on terror has nixed many of the rules we used to think of as fundamental. At Guantanamo Bay, our government initially claimed that prisoners should not be covered by habeas -- or even the Geneva Conventions -- because they're the most fearsome terrorist enemies we have. But is that true? Is it a camp full of terrorists, or a camp full of mistakes? An updated encore of our Peabody Award-winning show.
This American Life is an award-winning critically acclaimed weekly program describing and documenting contemporary American life. Each week a theme is chosen, and host Ira Glass and a variety of writers and performers share stories in a range of styles: monologues, documentaries, short radio plays, “found recordings,” and original works for radio. Music underscores many stories.
