Today's Highlight: Wednesday March 7, 2007 This Friday, March 9th the Montana Conservation Voters and Education Fund will be holding their 8th annual meeting and 2007 Legislative Party at the Shrine Temple, 15 North Jackson in Helena. The invited speaker is U.S. Senator Jon Tester and there will be an opportunity to discuss the future of Montana’s clean air and water, public lands, and outdoor legacy. To register, call 254-1593.
The University of Montana Debate Team will be holding a public discussion on the current Montana Education system and the budget surplus. The discussion is entitled, “An Extra One Billion Dollars! What About Education?” and will be held in room 326 of the University Center on Friday, March 9th from 5 – 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. For further details, call 239-4391.
The Montana Museum of Art and Culture will be holding an opening reception honoring the debut of the national traveling exhibition “George Longfish – A Retrospective.” The public reception will be from 4 – 7 p.m. this Friday, March 9th in the PARTV building on The University of Montana campus. A benefit concert for pianist Jodi Marshall will be held at the Missoula Children’s Theater on Saturday, March 10th. The event begins with a no-host cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m. with entertainment provided by professional musicians across Montana. To raise funds for their community projects, the Ronan Women’s Club is sponsoring its 21st annual Arts, Craft, and Flea Market. This event will be held at the Ronan Community Center on Saturday, March 10th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For further details, call Alice at 676-5079.
Everyone is invited to come and enjoy delicious chili and scones when Boy Scout troop 86 of Lolo will host their 8th annual Chili Feed. Serving will begin on Saturday, March 10th at 1:00 o’clock and will last until 6 p.m. at the Lolo Community Center. Tickets are $3.00 for a single and $10.00 for a family. It’s time to shed the winter blues and enjoy some international cuisine at The University of Montana 2007 International Culture and Food Festival. This year’s theme is “Missoula World Tour ’07: Explore Our World in Five Hours.” The event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. this Sunday, March 11th in the University Center on The University of Montana campus. The Campus Recreation Department at The University of Montana will be holding a Free Agent Roundup for intramural sports on Tuesday March 13th at 6:00 p.m. This roundup is intended for individuals who are looking to get onto a team or for teams who may need a few more members. March is “Music in the Schools Month” and the Children’s Museum in Missoula, along with Morgenroth’s Music Center will be presenting a series of programs for children ages 5 – 10. Each Friday in March the focus of the music presentation will be on a different instrument such as the keyboard, the guitar, and electronic drums! Activities include listening to the featured instrument, meeting local musicians, and making an instrument to take home. Pre-registration is required by calling the Children’s Museum at 541-7529.
The Grandstreet Theatre School in Helena announces auditions for the summer Teen Performer’s Conservatory production of Grease. The school is looking for young performers throughout the United States ages 12 – 20 to either mail a videotaped audition by March 15th or attend the live audition which will be held on Sunday, March 18th at 2:00 p.m. For complete details, call Marianne at 442-4270.
Childcare Resources of Missoula will be conducting a beginning level course on Exploring Nature with Children on Thursday, March 22nd from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Montana Natural History Center. The class will explore tools and techniques for bringing nature activities and exploration into a child care setting.
